I'm looking for some technical advice regarding a persistent DPF warning on my 2012 Peugeot 3008 1.6 HDi.
Symptoms
- "Risk of particle filter clogging" warning appears intermittently.
- Vehicle drives perfectly with no loss of power.
- No limp mode.
- Warning sometimes disappears by itself after the vehicle has been left overnight.
Diagnostics
I've recently installed Diagbox 7.57 with a Lexia interface.
A full Global Test completed successfully and the only engine fault present is:
P1490 – Particle Filter fault
No other engine faults are present.
Live DPF Data
With the engine running:
- Calculated soot load: approximately 0.44 g
- Estimated ash load: approximately 26 g
- Differential pressure across the DPF at idle: approximately 3 mbar
These figures suggest the DPF is flowing very well and is not physically blocked.
Other Information
- The vehicle is still consuming Eolys additive, indicating regeneration attempts are occurring.
- The engine starts instantly and runs smoothly.
- No excessive smoke.
- Fuel economy appears normal.
- Engine performance feels completely normal.
Diagbox Observation
Within the diagnostic information I also noticed a parameter reporting pre-heating glow plugs: non-activation.
As the engine starts immediately from cold, I'm unsure whether this simply means the ECU isn't requesting the glow plugs, or whether a glow plug fault could prevent regeneration while still allowing the engine to start normally.
Current Thoughts
Given the very low soot loading, modest ash loading and extremely low differential pressure, I don't currently believe the DPF itself is blocked.
I'm beginning to wonder whether:
- a previous regeneration has left a counter uncleared,
- the additive (Eolys) ECU or DPF ECU requires an adaptation or reset,
- there is a historical fault causing the warning,
- or another regeneration prerequisite is not being met.
I'm continuing to investigate with Diagbox and plan to examine the additive ECU, regeneration history and any DPF reset/adaptation functions.
Has anyone experienced P1490 with such low soot loading, low differential pressure and an apparently healthy DPF? If so, what was the eventual cause?

187000 miles. I do have it booked into a performance centre for a dpf clean. But there is no real sign of blocked dpf, and everything else suggests healthy filter, even though the risk of dpf clogging warning comes and goes.
