Xsara 2.0hdi battery drain

Unread post by jopis8 »

Hi!
I'm new on forum, but with old problems :(

I have 2004 2.0hdi xsara 66kW.
Latest problem is battery drain.
I had engine overheat after long waiting while stuck on border pass. When i drive, coolant temperature is about 80°c, but when i was stuck on that border, i got redlight warning and temperatures above 100.
Soon as i got home, i found out that fuse was broken, first one from left side, big one, i think 50A, below bsm in engine bay. I replaced it with new one, cooling vent started working again.
When i was replacing that fuse, i got idea to controll all other fuses on car. And i have noticed that another one was broken, in small fuse/relay box just right by solenoid valve which controlls egr.
I replaced that one too (there is only 2 of fuses, and 2 green relays).
But there i noticed that when i shutdown engine, that solenoid stays running for some time, so i suspect that there is my problem of battery draining. Sometimes it stops after few minutes, sometimes it takes longer to that solenoid stop working. And something else, do anyone here has connection diagram for that solenoid? Upper 2 pipes are connected, one on vacuum pump, second on egr valve, but bottom pipe is free. And when i press my finger onto it to close air sucking on it, solenoid turns off. So my question is, is it possible that solenoid kills battery in one night if it stays too long 'open' trying to shutoff, or i should look on 3 green relays of ac/cooling vent on radiator, because 2 electrians told me that if battery drain started after i change that fuse of radiator vent, there should be something with drain.... But my concern is still that why is down pipe on solenoid without any connection or something like some sort of plug on the end of it.
And yeah, my new battery is messed up after just day and a half in car with that ammount of drain (i put brand new 75ah 700A battery, tryed to drive 30mins, parked and didnt drive for a day and half). After it drained yesterday, i charged in on proffessional charger and picked it up today, tester said battery charged on 100%, on 12.5V, but it has only 370A power on tester :!: . Do i have to replace new battery again?
My second concern is xsara's typical fault - high beam position on indicator/lights handle behind wheel. When i switch to high beam, they shut off after few seconds back to low beam. If i put little pressure from myself onto handle, then they stay on high beam, but not always. Same thing is sometimes when i get in car, put key in ignition position, lights get on without i touched handle to turn lights on. I thaught that there is drain cause, but then i would see that lights got on when night goes on, car is below my window, i see it all night.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like the column switch has got contaminated or even broken, I'd suggest you consider replacing the unit. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I think i found suspect for drain.
I've spent whole day, disconnecting relays and fuses, searching for drain cause.
After whole day, just before dark, i found out that my mehanic connected BLACK wire from + on battery onto bsm module, and RED wire which comes from main power cables from engine bay onto bsm's black connector.
After i unscrewed that 8mm nut and pulled out red cable, my + lead on battery dont make sparks anymore when i reconnect it. So, 99% that there is battery drain cause, but now queston is, where the hell goes that red wire??? Does anyone here has similar car (2004 xsara) with same bsm type, to take a picture so i can see where those cables must go? Only pictures on web are those of bsm's for sale, with wires being cutted or disconnected. My concern is only that red one with round plain washer ending, where the hell it goes, if not on that 8mm threaded rod where is black one + from battery connected?
It's dark now, and i have no conditions for further investigation, and i need picture of properly connected bsm so i can continue tommorrow morning.
Tnx.

Anyone?
Does anyone has access to electric scheme of this exact combo so i can have info where the hell this red wire goes?
It's supposed to be + and to be attached together with that live + black below on picture which goes directly from battery, but in my case, back in few days, that red wire is - out of sudden (wth).
So i need wiring diagram of combo with that red wire (all i found on internet is without it) so i can found where the other end of it is attached so i can found cause of my problems.
Tnx.

If you look the bundle of wires you'll see that they all have identification codes printed on them. Does this thick red wire have a code printed on it? If it doesn't then it's more than likely to be something a previous owner has fitted. Colour of wires is absolutely no clue as to its function.

It has but is blured. I would say BB3 but i'll scrap tomorrow more insulation arround it to try to find non blured code. It goes in same bundle with bb5a red thick wire.
I've just found some wirind diagram on internet, and they both are supposed to be + on preheat control unit, bb3 on it from battery, bb5 (mine is bb5a...), goes from preheat control unit onto 3 relays at the radiator, for powering radiator vent.
