309 1.8 Brake calliper question

Unread post by Gsbx1220 »

Quick question.

I don’t have access to the car just now to check this myself & wont get near it until the weekend.

Does anyone know what type of bolt head is used on the calliper securing bolts. Is it just standard hex, or something like Allen or Torx? I’m sorted if it’s hex or Allen, but not so with Torx as I only have a few sizes.

Need to swap a calliper at the weekend and don’t want to fall at the first hurdle.

Cheers.

I can't say for your car but I have come across Torx headed caliper bolts on Peugeots which needed a 1/2" drive T55 bit and a big breaker bar. They can be ridiculously tight!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

For buying a single T55 bit, they are sometimes sold individually for ford cylinder head bolts.

Yep, right on both counts... For that reason, only use a very high quality T55 bit. Far too many are made of stale French cheese and are about as much use

Also, firmly hammer in the bit to ensure it's fully seated. The percussion will also assist in loosening. Use a long breaker bar.

Cheers guys.

I'm good to go if its T55. Sure that was the size on my Xantia & definitely the size for Alfa Brembo callipers.
