PSA interface

Unread post by RSJ »

Hi guys,

I have a Lexia interface from around 2006 or 2007. We bought this new back in the day, it came with a laptop and cost roughly £3,000, so it should be a genuine unit.

I haven’t used it much over the past few years, but I’m getting back into this line of work, so I thought it might come in useful again.

To be blunt, even though we bought it as a genuine unit, I’d still like to confirm that before I try updating it. I’d also appreciate any information from anyone here who knows a bit about these.

Mine is a Revision B and has never been updated. I opened it up and it has 12 white “Japan” relays, which from my research suggests it’s likely genuine — so hopefully I wasn’t ripped off all those years ago.

Does anyone have the PSA Interface Checker tool to test it, or is there a link where I can get it?

Also, am I correct in thinking that if it comes back as fully legit, I can install the official Diagbox, let it update the firmware, and then use it online?

A picture of your models internals might help. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

If it is revision B then it would not be compatible with most vehicles after about 2009.

Online use requires that you have an active Stellantis account, which is difficult to set up unless you are in the trade, and perhaps of limited benefit for any vehicle that is old enough to be compatible with your VCI.

There are no ‘B’ original VCIs. All originals have always been ‘C’.

Information about the original VCI
Originals can be identified at a glance – there is no need to open them.
1. There is a 6-digit white marking on the black round connector. Example: “SD1505” – each VCI has a different number.
2. The 15-pin USB connector is black – usually blue on the clone
3. The small 2-pin connector next to the USB port is rectangular on the clone and rectangular with a grid and programmed on the original.
4. Actia PSA XS EVOLUTION or XS EVOLUTION R – each original has its own number following 921815C or 922173A for the R-VCI.
Clones all bear the same number: either 921815B or 921815C / 40W07 / 0005451 and, following XS-Evolution, always ‘Made in France’.
5. The original connection cable is also longer and has a 6-digit white marking on the black round plug – example: SD0803.
6. The original front sticker on the A.1281 Z features only the Peugeot symbol (bold black text) and Citroën (bold red text), whilst the clone still bears the DS Spirit symbol – the text beneath the surface is also different.
7. The screws used to open the case halves on the clone are ‘Phillips’ – the originals have different screws.

Here you can download the Interface checker program and find out what version it is. The site is in Spanish but can be easily translated. There is also an instruction on how to change version B to C.

Thanks Mihael_M, just want I wanted.

I've been doing a bit of research of my old unit (asking a seller of them)

Mine does have the blue port, however right or wrong, i've been told that the very early ones did.
This was bought as a genuine unit by us back in around 2005 or early 2006, I'm sure.
It's just reading everything on line you don't know what to listen to and what to ignore.

From what i've been told, what cit-rotti said above (although I appreciate all views, I am asking after all) I've been told the very early one's were made like mine before they later settled on certain ways.

I was hoping this could be upgraded so I could use it online, via the official stellantis online portal, but I've since been told it's too far out from a hardware point of view.

I know people will look at this and say, it hasn't got this or that. But remember the year I bought this, this was before the clones hit the market.
Note the date in the picture says 09, we were actively using this at the time, so that's not unusual.

I don't have it now, but it was sold with a laptop, a dell if I remember rightly, and the guy who sold it did look after our gear, It's just me now, but a few year back my family used to own a decent sized auto electrical company. we moved away from doing this sort of work, but lately I've been buying official tools again, hence why I wanted to know where I stand with this one.

It doesn't make much difference really, because I'll have to buy the new version of it now, but I didn't want to be that guy who never posts again

I've been told by someone else that based on everything, mine is a genuine unit from that year. but if anyone has any other views, feel free to share, no hate here  New tool in coming anyway

Im not sure this evolution style interface even came out till around 2007 (maybe very late 2006)
In this post i compare a real & fake interface side by side for reference, my legit on in the picture is from 2007 & has the black port.
viewtopic.php?p=702918&hilit=fake+interface#p702918

The stickers are usually a dead giveaway, the fake ones come with the stickers supplied on a sheet for you (or the seller) to stick on yourself. The real interfaces the stickers are already applied, unless you have robotic arms there is no way you are getting them on perfectly.
