Xantia noisy over bumps

Happy to say my 2000 Xantia 1.8 16 valve 189,000 miles has now got a new MOT, emissions no problem steering rack boot was, first try was a not very stretchy rubber gaiter, stretchier one ordered and job done.
However there is still a clunking noise from the rear suspension, it's got new trailing arm bearings. Can old ram seals cause this problem, I ask as it seems to improve after a few minutes driving.

Does it come up to level at the back when first started ?
Are the rams/pistons seated correctly ?
Can you trust the work done/rebuild when the rear bearings were replaced/was it done by a specialist Citroen garage ?

yes it does but some fluid is leaking into the gaiter.
yes they are.
It was done by me following the methods on the forum, not the first time I've changed them.

Are the rear subframe mounts in good condition? Anti roll bar 8x screws all tight and good?

Also! Some 'big' noises can be caused by small things like mudflaps occasionally hitting tyres e.g on turns, also the metal brake disk shield on each trailing arm can corrode and move about.. been there!

Sorry I can't help with advice on the knocking suspension issue, but after reading this, I think one of these may be appropriate?

Hello All,
Still the 1.8 Xantia
I have lifted the back and then dropped it, clunky noise in both directions.
Trying to attach a file (mp4) with the noise from rear of the car, not very successfully.
I believe it's the bearings that have lasted less than 2 years.
What is a good and reliable make for the trailing arm bearings.

SKF used to do a kit for the trailing arm bearings on the Xantia (this was a long time ago though tbf!) and their bearings are excellent.
I used that previously and if that kit is still available (not sure?) then I'd recommend that.

Hopefully the link works.
Took the trailing arm of and the bearings seem ok, no broken bits, cage intact.
this is the noise from the rear drivers side when I bounce the car up and down, same over bumps.

Sounds like them (the arm bearings) to me.....but that is a guess from a sound

Is that with no pressure in the rear suspension, or with the suspension still pressurised?

Alasdair, it does to me too but when i took the arm off they looked and felt fine.

That rules out some other options then and yep, leaves bearings as by far the most likely!
