Just renewed ours - 3008 is almost free - £170, but done through Topcashback there is a £45 cash back so it's only just over £100 8-) Picasso is a bit more at £250. Complicated by the presence of a 17y old learner - he's got his own policy for learner at £38 / month but it goes up to £220 / month once he's passed  Looking around I can get a policy with him on once he passes for about £1100 (with another £45 cash back :-D ) so got a sacrificial policy till he passes and then will get a new one with him on it. Needs a spreadsheet to work it all out!

On the ITV Martin Lewis show this week he said car and house insurance prices are now falling, cars about 15% over the year from his website. If people are being given renewals that have gone up the insurers are trying to make too much. He said car insurance quotes are about lowest about 26 days before renewal and house about 15 days before renewal.

I saw that Paul - ours are at the same time (had them on a multi car at one time). Change every year now (due to aforementioned cashback!) at around beginning of Feb to be on the bottom of the curve. Both with Marmalade last year (even though we are not young 🤣) - my renewal had gone down a bit / wife's up a lot.

I've been though the insurance minefield recently, what annoys me is you go on the comparison site, get a good price, then get charged insurance tax and a setup fee!
End of grumble  :taz:

I'd be interested to hear your experience Neil with regard to car number 8 in this video: :)

I think you would be surprised if I reported that the video was my experience of number 8. If it was number 8 would have made its way to the scrappy and I wouldn't have expended any blood sweat and tears on it. Suffice to say without specifics its taxed insured and MOT'ed at a rate which a tight fisted falcon is content with and happy to justify running as a second car. It has not so far in 7 years of ownership ever visited a main dealer for any service maintenance or repair and never will. It has done 84,000 miles and has 85% Battery SOH. Northumberland does have its advantages in premiums, as found out when looking for first-time insurance for our youngest after passing her test in Manchester few years ago.

This morning among my routine emails was the renewal notice for the Subaru. This is just an extract that says it all:

Just read this on the Beeb:
Woman, 86, convicted after car insurance typo error
An 86-year-old woman has been convicted by a fast-track court after she accidentally got one letter wrong on her car insurance papers.

The pensioner, from York, applied for a year's worth of cover for her Suzuki Splash car with Swinton Insurance, believing she was fully complying with the law.

However, she had written an F down as part of her number plate instead of an S, rendering the insurance technically invalid.

She was handed a three-month conditional discharge instead of a fine, but also ordered to pay a £26 victim surcharge.....
Simple mistake but the courts and DVLA* comounding the problem.

*daughter #1 still no further forward with her problem with them, a year on.

Maybe she could claim a refund from the insurance company as effectively they had not covered her. It would be cruel if they then put up her premium for being convicted of driving without insurance. Having a single magistrate finding somebody guilty does not seem like a good system.

But...... didn't she.......did she fill out the insurance paperwork (or online) herself? If someone is doing it for here, some people that she don't, she could have said to the person completing the for 'F' and they heard 'S', or visa-versa........ just saying.
