SH fuse/Shunt fuse

Unread post by Kloppster333 »

Evening folks. A very basic question here as I am obviously using the wrong spare fuse name when trying to order a fuse. Simply put, I was doing a test of certain fuses in the dashboard fusebox. One which I accidentally took out and proceeded to completely lose was the SH fuse, or otherwise named Shunt fuse, so obviously my car turns over now but won't start. Has someone got a link you could kindly post please of somewhere UK I can order online like Halfords or Amazon. When I put shunt in the search nothing comes up. I know what the fuse is for (now), and been advised it's around £10 to buy. Someone also suggested to put a 40amp blade fuse in instead, but that doesn't fit at all. Please and thank you in advance.

The shunt is NOT a fuse!! It's a special resistor.
So i think you have to go to the dealer and btw take al the information about the car with you, because there are several different Citroën C5.
In your post you don't described which type you speaking about.

The part number is 650481

You should be able to order one from a dealer.

The official PSA heritage site sells them: https://www.boutique-laventure-associat ... shunt.html

Or find any PSA car from the era in a scrapyard.

Are we sure there's a resistance inside a shunt? I don't think there is so why not take an ordinary fuse of any value and solder a thickish wire across the two terminals? Or, even easier, just plug a high value (30A?) fuse in. Put a dob of paint on to identify that it's not an ordinary fuse.

Actually I don't think there's any great current flowing through the shunt and so any value fuse could be used.

The shunt is not a resistor with a specific resistance, it is just (as close as they can get) a short circuit. The pins are a different spacing so you can't mistakenly swap it with a normal fuse.

Now that I didn't realise. I take it all back.

Correct its a dead short, no resistance inside it.

The legs are spaced slightly wider apart so you cant put a regular fuse in there.
as a temporary repair till you get the correct shunt loop a thick pace of wire & crimp 2 male spade terminals on to it & bridge with that
