I think it's because they couldn't find the V8:

Ah yes, Mercedes not typically known for their quality. Back in the day sometimes they'd just slap in whatever engine was to hand

I looked and thought initially there was nothing of interest - until I spotted this
That said, I was never so keen on the graphics applied to the later ones and always preferred the earlier versions as on my '84 MG Metro and '86 Turbo Metro...
Both mine were white although my first MG Metro - in Cyprus - was black...

As James May puts it - A straight six is a gentleman's engine, the V8s are for roguesMattBLancs wrote: 06 Mar 2026, 06:47 Ah yes, Mercedes not typically known for their quality. Back in the day sometimes they'd just slap in whatever engine was to hand

Straight sixes are better balanced than any configuration of 8 cylinders. The only configuration that's better than a straight 6 is a V12.

MG TC please.
I haven't seen a JC Midge for ages, I had ambitions of building one many years ago and I still have the full size paper plans

Probably the 1980 Rolls-Royce Camargue for me, though every single thing about it is going to be expensive

Why do we need a lift? Aren't we all (when we think about it) made of Star Stuff?
