Yep, the old ones crusty as heck
Plus the ones that came off were slightly different the new setup had new pins and clips the clips were slightly different shape then the original ones but we all know what after market pieces are like

I once replaced the front and rear discs/pads on a car at the same time and realised at the first junction they needed quite a few miles to bed in to stop the car. On later cars I would do the front and back on different weeks so not as scary. So with you doing the front and rear at different times should give some time/miles for the rears to bed in before the front.

Thanks Jim , that advice about the electric screwdriver payed off big time , not only did it do the stuff for thd 207, I remembered a pair of hub carriers I got for the 308cc which needed the lower balljoints removed , no problem out they came 5 seconds flat lol 😀 brilliant piece of kit and an aging aching body saver lol

Finally had good weather so decided to replace the front discs and pads everything was going really well till I opened up the box of new parts then compared them to the original ones and they were to big. I spoke to the gemini assistant on my phone while in the car and it found everything needed and even checked the numbers of the new ones and it said that they were for a different variant of a 207 as mine were the same as the 1.4hdi it even found the sites to purchase them and rechecked with cross reference of parts numbers , my next door neighbour couldn't believe the my car had spoke and sorted out all the parts needed as he could hear the voice coming from the car as I was outside of it 😆 time it took this new tech to source the parts 2 minutes...

That's bloody annoying Husky :(

Good on Gemini confirming they were wrong... I saw a long printout of ChatGPT doing a diagnosis of a 'pinking' AX the other day and in general it did quite well.

I beat it to the real cause though - a punctured vacuum advance capsule diaphragm in the distributor. We suspect a 'helpful' mechanic had adjusted the static timing to be over-advanced to compensate. That and the air-leak caused by the puncture would have caused a weak mixture leading to a bit of detonation under load...

I was surprised I even checked the numbers it gave myself and it was all correct, nothing more annoying than getting everything out the way then finding out after you undo the box nothing fits size wise, however the new parts are down for 10th March so that's not to bad, plus the fact who ever fitted the set that's going to be replaced used copper Grease where it was needed which has helped a lot .

As regards the punctured vacuum pipe it's great that ai confirmed what you thought it was yourself , it's like a second confirmation but just from an ai tool which I guess how it's going today and onwards is going to more than likely common place. What made me laugh was I swore as I offered the new part against old and saw the size difference, even though the seller said they would fit my car. And with me swearing I was told off by gemini, I then said what are you my mum , it then came back with it's not possible as im not a physical being
