C4 Grand Picasso II (2015) CANBUS Gone Off The Rails

Hello all,

I hope I haven't posted this in the wrong place but I coldn't find anything CANBUS orientated.

Sadly, I have never got to be friends with my Lexia, and it is sitting in my study unused, and I am only able to report via my TOPDON diag box
Yesterday evening, on leaving a friend's house, starting the car produced a light show never seen before in all 84000 miles in this, or any other, car. Just about everything that previously worked, or wasn't previously isolated, misbehaved, and most other systems joined in, in some kind of show of sympathy..

Inspection Result - Engine RUNNING
Engine System 2 problems exist
1.U1213 Fault In Communication With The ABS/ESP ECU. Communication Not Valid
2.U1218 Communication Fault With The Built-in Systems Interface. Communication Not Valid

Gearbox 2 problems exist - (this produced the same result, over 60 miles driving home as leaving the house first thing in the morning when the temperature is BELOW 5C - total freewheel when I took my foot off the accelerator - a MAJOR FAILURE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE EAT6 (and EAT8.?) gearbox - either a slow temperature detector or low oil pressure when so cold which cost me my first Picasso II EAT6 and £5000 extra to buy this one - identical model)

Vehicle Distance Assistance 3 problems exist - (this has always worked, but is in dire need of recalibration. Doesn't work at the moment as the Cruise control is isolated by this new fault)
1.U1F79 Fault In The Information Sent By The ESP ECU
2.B1217 Deterioration Of The Functions Linked To The

Distance Alert Radar Following The Receipt Of Incoherent Information (COLLISION DETECTION is another failure)
3.U1F00 Event Not Recorded Fault Instrument Panel 2 problems exist
1.B1003 Fault: Secure Configuration Faulty
2.B151C Video Connection Fault

RH Reversible Seat Belt Reel 2 problems exist - This seatbelt works perfectly, and always has done, including collision protection tensioning
1.B1004 ECU Internal Fault
2.U1F00 Fault Event Not Stored In The Faults Log

Parking Assistance 2 problems exist - this function has never been used but has equally never showed a fault (it doesn't currently workas the parking sensors are isolated)
1.U1F90 Loss Of Information From The Built-in Systems Interface Fault
2.B1219 Fault In The Electric Power Steering Status Information For The Semi-automatic Parking System

Electric Power Steering 3 problems exist
1.C1644 Power Supply Fault. Open Circuit
2.C1406 Engine Or Power Steering Calculator Overtemperature Not Characterised
3.U131D Fault: No Communication With Parking Assistance ECU. Not Characterised

25.Voltage Retaining Device - this shows intermittent often, but I am still driving on a TEN YEAR OLD BATTERY - the original, with never a complaint up to ten days parked)

I tested the car today after cancelling all intermittent DATA Faults and I was treated to the same light show when I moved off and all the same systems that failed yesterday, failed again.

It's most likely a fault with an ABS sensor, or the signal from one - odd that ABS is not reporting any faults. Can you read live data on the scanner? in which case i would go in and check all the wheel speeds are 0 stationary and move together when the car moves. These are prone to the wire from the rear sensor rotting through inside the conduit - there was a thread just a couple of days ago: https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=88809

Hi Richard,

I replied a while ago, but it has disappeared.

Further testing this evening has shown up Front Left ABS Sensor - Fault code C0031 - Front Left Hand Wheel Speed Sensor. I can only hope that, as it is a complete sensor and cable that one of our wonderful Kent Potholes may have dislodged the cable.

They're not expensive, and shouldn't be too hard to change. I had (a rear) one give up on my 3008 last year.

.... and no torque converter lockup. It sounds like a typical Prius CVT gearbox... Annoying as all hell

According to my TOPDON diag box, the only ABS fault is - Front Left ABS Sensor - Fault code C0031 - Front Left Hand Wheel Speed Sensor.

I have spent most of Sunday, and today, when my ABS Sensor arrived, searching for any post scovering FRONT ABS sensor fault without success.

My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] if anyone needs it, and the identity code on the Driver's door pillar is 14121FV 20543 EHHC FJ751565 760 EN AGM A which was requested in many of the rear sensor problem posts.

Having not yet removed the battery to start exploring, I would be most grateful for confirmation of the location of the inboard connector end of the LH Wheel ABS Sensor and if possible a circuit diagram of the offending areas. Any other pertinent information will be most gratefully accepted.

There should be a connector under the wheel arch somewhere to facilitate replacement. Just follow the wire back? Have you got a new sensor - try plugging it in and see if the fault clears?

Yes, there was (a connector under the wheelarch). I would like to add a couple of photos for anyone who ever has a FRONT ABS sensor failure in a Picasso II, but I haven't figured out how to upload them (advice / assistance gratefully accepted).

Removal of the Wheel arch protector, showed everything. Once that came out, the job was easy, but I admit to jitters in case I had to follow more wire problems in the loom. Replacement of the sensor - after cleaning of the area - was easy, and luckily there were no other wires to chase. Cost at a PSA garage £123 +VAT just for the sensor - at Eurocarparts £75, EBAY £12 to £50 (sincere apologies if this is classified as advertising).

Firing the engine up with the new sensor fitted was like heaven. No bells and whistles, and driving around with no flickering dash lights here and there, was bliss after clearing all the induced faults.

A word of warning to anyone with an AUTOMATIC (EAT6 or EAT8) transmission and a failed ABS sensor..... The gearbox will not lock-up in gear and any driving over 20mph is exclusively on torque converter. I don't think there are any PICASSO IIs with an EGS gearbox so it would be interesting to see what would happen to one in the case of ABS sensor failure

After going to PSA (£123+VAT just for the sensor), and Eurocarparts (£74), EBAY was the answer - £12 to £50, I paid £22.83 from PartsInMotion

And I found out how to upload photos - not bad for an old fella.

The photos aren't the very best but they show the location under the (LEFT HAND) wheelarch
