Also a five mile walk, first back from the garage s missed the bus by a minute, was on the opposite side of the road, then a walk to a cash machine, heating engineer coming first thing tomorrow.
All fun and games
Yep, deep socket needed for it (and big breaker bar - chuffing tight!!!)
I did have a hands over the eyes moment myself , waiting for the jack to slowly sink into the cars metal like a knife in butterMattBLancs wrote: 20 Feb 2026, 08:23 Did that 307 get the jack under the (not reinforced bit of the) sill!
(axle stand on the correct bit)
I've seen 41mm mentioned then 42mm I got a 42 mm spanner and 41mm 85mm deep socket so ones going to work , all else fails I've an inner tie rod socket which will fit , plus the new rattle gun, pr spanner and 3 foot scaffolding tube , im prepared for all forms of getting these offMattBLancs wrote: 20 Feb 2026, 08:02 Have a read here:

I can't spot the conclusion, but short version is:
Bought a set of various 1/2" drive deep impact sockets, including the needed 41mm,
Turns out it's not deep enough, long thread of the ball joint stud reaching too far into the socket. Thread size is bigger than the half inch square recess (which is deeper than needed for the breaker bar to connect its square into) so I did look at trying to machine inside the socket out a touch.
I bought a 3/4" breaker bar and a set of deep sockets for that (triggered by the Blue 308 overtight hub nut) and the 3/4" deep socket 41mm did the job
