Re: Dont trust AI for advice
Is that true? Interesting: it's the first reverse-thread crankshaft pulley bolt I've come across

P.s. wholeheartedly agree with advice to give AI answers VERY close scrutiny before following!

Re: Dont trust AI for advice
Like Matt I have never come across a clockwise to release crankshaft bolt which would prevent the engine bump method from working, which it has whenever I've come across it. However I go further than Matt on the AI advice. Don't ask it at all!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Dont trust AI for advice
How do you know which end of the engine your "adviser in the cloud" is standing at?
Also, seems odd that for a Citroen it suggests imperial spanner sizes. Half inch drive, fair enough, 7/8 inch or metric equivalent socket, shouldn't it start with metric in the first place? That will be 22.225 ..... time to look for one in my toolbox. Also as well - starter bump method - ensure car is in gear. I know eveyone thinks AI will control the world soon enough, but is it trying to kill us off to speed things up?
Grrrrrrrr.

Re: Dont trust AI for advice
I think on our 2.2 hdi C5 the crank pulley bolt has to be undone gradually due to loctite or something or there is a risk it could break.
If anyone watched prime minister's question time today but it was suggested the PM is gullible. The government has been pushing AI to help growth - wonder if AI told him it would ? Searching on google 'does AI help growth' it comes back with an AI reply it does.

Yep, I remember that on my 2.2 - the loctite can bunch up on the threads supposedly.PaulC5 wrote: 11 Feb 2026, 21:36 I think on our 2.2 hdi C5 the crank pulley bolt has to be undone gradually due to loctite or something or there is a risk it could break.
Loosened mine with breaker bar (about half a turn) then switched to torque wrench set to something like 150 Nm. Backed off rest of the way like that (on the basis that if the wrench clicked, I'd stop go back in a bit then try again)
Wrench did not click but it was stiff ALL the way out! Pretty much final turn of the threads before it was down to finger tight. Not come across something undoing like that before, or since!
