Interesting, so Citroen took the Samba and Peugeot the 309
Yes, and it is alleged what became the 205 was found on the Simca drawing board when PSA took them over...

Never knew that, that would of been an interesting development if it had happened, as regards my samba i remember a couple of things about the car when I had it , it used to lean quite a bit if you cornered hard & being a wally (I was only 20) I remember putting my foot down through a village that had a mean hump back bridge its was about 12 midnight I got it up over 30 (wow) and hit the hump of the bridge ... it took off 😆 flying samba. when I landed I stopped the car walked back to the hump and picked up the contents of my under pants 😆 🤣 😂 oh god .... im laughing typing this just thinking of it ... somehow my mum found out what id done and she gave me a wallop for being an idiot, turns out my friend told her , I found that out because after he said sorry about your mum giving you a slap but when your told me earlier I had to say something we don't want anything happening to you ... youth is wasted on the young isnt it ..

At the Peugeot dealer presently (waiting for them to open at 8:00) as the blue 308 is having it's recall.

As it's a "Stellantis &You" I'm surrounded by Fiats and Vauxhalls a plenty!

More detailed "review" coming later but here was my transport for some of today, an electric... Well I'd assumed 3008 as it's quite big! Ha ha nope this is an e-2008 it seems!

308 recall completed and they gave me a nice video and list of jobs "needing" doing, a "review" of those to follow....

wiper system £0.00
Rear Wiper Blade is Working Effectively - May Need Replacing Before Your Next Service. Please Monitor.
Front Wiper Blades are Working Effectively - May Need Replacing Before Your Next Service. Please Monitor.
Err, ok? Found some additional details. Slightly odd "they are effective, but might need replacing". Suppose that's true. Think I will monitor them as suggested
lights at rear of the vehicle £37.56
Nearside Number Plate Light Bulb - Needs Replacing and Testing. 0.1 Offside Number Plate Light Bulb - Needs Replacing and Testing. 0.1
Translation: new number plate lights. (As per additional detail, also quoted)

Reality: they are LED (and working. Not spot lighting the floor like some aftermarket LEDs! I'd say close in output to the filament bulb originals)
Coolant\Antifreeze Level : £94.99
Vehicle Antifreeze Protection Level - between -15°C and -23°C - Antifreeze Change Advised Soon - It is also starting to become less effective at providing overheating protection or engine anti-corrosion protection, 0.5 Antifreeze\Coolant ½ Full - Top Up Advised Soon.
Over the phone I thought this was flush and replace but their sheet suggests just top up to level.

Reality: coolant sat on the max line, where it should be.

(I think a flush would be justified, as it's not the rich red colour it out to be (another flush is on the cards, when the weather is fit!))

Additional detail added: I think -15 to -23°C is fine!
Engine Oil Level : £16.55
Engine Oil - ¼ FULL 0.75 Litres Short.- Top Up Required - Low oil level will lead to increased friction within the engine causing excess wear, increased emissions and reduced fuel efficiency. It also significantly reduces the life of your engine components
Reality: it was half way between max and mine lines. I took bottle of oil with me and put perhaps half a litre in.

Additional detail: ah, they agree it's a bit low. A bit.
Front Brake Pads and Discs : £379.00
Rear Brake Pads and Discs/Hubs : £299.00
Front Brake Pads 80% worn - That's 2mm of material left until you reach the manufacturers minimum thickness. (A) Front Brake Discs 80% worn - That's only 0.4mm until you Reach the Manufacturers Maximum Wear Limit. (A)
We Recommend Changing the Brake Discs with the Pads Rear Brake Pads 70% worn -That's 3mm of material left until you reach the manufacturers minimum thickness. (A) Discs corroded.
Accepted (as in agree needs doing!) on both counts. Wow, nearly £700 though!

Ok, so they've the equipment to measure the disk thickness and think front disks are on the thin side. I will seek out a pair of disks for the front too.
Front Suspension excluding Shocks and Springs : £224.90
Offside Front Ball Joint - Needs Replacing. Ball joint worn.
Video description states slight play in ball joint (driver's side) both wishbones (and associated bottom ball joints) are less than 2 years old I think. Quite disappointed if giving up already!
Exhaust System and Catalyst : £215.03
Exhaust Rear Silencer - Flexible Mountings Required
This is a good spot, I think this is source of mystery noise I've had in last week. Not noticed before that (and not mentioned by MOT man either)

Research on the parts ongoing, looks to be between £5-£35 for the mounts themselves.
General Comments and Observations : £0.00
Haha, that's a price I can't quibble with!

Additional detail:
Observations
Observations Noted: NSF wheel arch liner broken.
Also mentioned/shown on the video was that the front passenger side arch liner is cracked. Yes, it definitely is!
It's one I've fixed with the hot staples in the past, but the whole thing is brittle so it's time to change the whole thing.
Quite surprised they've not priced me up one if those given it's clearly had it!

Enterprising chap attempting to fix his 308 mount:

And, after it failed a part 2

I think for sub-£10 I'll just get one ordered. Will likely have a play at sticking the old one (and keep as a spare)

Wonky ball joint: I've emailed the eBay seller. I have in mind the wishbones were supposed to be 2 year warranty (but cannot find details to confirm that now) so will see what reply I get. They've other brands of same component for sale now, listed with 2 year warranty.

Autodoc has Febi brand ball joint for £12.99
https://m.autodoc.co.uk/febi-bilstein/16180609
So no great issue if eBay seller tells me to get lost :)

Peugeot dealer price to beat, round 1:
Exhaust System and Catalyst : £215.03
Exhaust Rear Silencer - Flexible Mountings Required
2 down:
eBay to the rescue
eBay to the rescue
:)

£9.88+£9.66= £19.54 (91% saving)

EDIT
First one = incorrect!
Hence:
Second attempt (eBay, again)
Second attempt (eBay, again)
£12.85

£9.88+£9.66+£12.85= £32.39 (85% saving)
:)

That's a very comprehensive list Matt... Looks like a very overt attempt to drain your bank account...

Just supposing you were an average member of the public and knew no better...

Ha ha, yes I've copied it out and then there's a fair bit of "thinking aloud" on my part.

Most jobs can wait for a break in the weather, even the front pads that's the most pressing have a few months life before we're metal to metal.

Absolutely, not quite there with this one (in terms of how much it's worth), but I'd think there's cars get scrapped when their low value is contrasted against a scary huge list like that!

I will tot up my actual costs for fixing all the above in due course. I'm certain I can be well under a half the cost, see if I can keep below a quarter???? :-D

All part of the scheme to get people to scrap old cars and buy new electric ones so the electricity companies can fleece us instead of the oil companies!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
