Neighbour gave me this Lexia

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Some time ago I was given this.

Cannot recall if he said it was not working.

He said it was a genuine Lexia. Obviously one of the very early originals by the looks of it.

Plus a photo of my knackered clone for reference.

I would guess the one missing the serial port socket and a hole burned out of the chip nearby is the knackered one! I'm no expert on the innards of these but both seem to have fewer optoconnectors than is required for full compatibility with 'difficult' cars.

This is not an original, because you missed the optocouplers!!

That is not a serial port (as they only have 9 pins), it is a VGA port (which has 15 pins), although not used for a VGA output.

The one with the silver edge I believed was genuine but having delved a bit more into it, it is unlikely because the genuine Actia did not have blue coloured serial connectors. They were black apparently.

I think it would come alive again if I could source a replacement connector. I could desolder from the other complete one but why have two knackered Lexias?

Mine worked previously on 7.57 despite reading in various places that it is best on 7.02. I went to uninstall 7.57 last night but it wouldn't uninstall as the installer is missing. Bl**dy nightmare. I really don't want to uninstall as that is simply going further down the reinstallation rabbit hole than I want to. See other posts as necessary about the superb PSA-DIAG.FR software (that still doesn't recognise the Lexias). With the guy's videos being in fast fluent French I don't think I will spend time translating them.

This is true. The originals were black I have since learned.

I refer to them as serial but it is a DB15 high density connector.

It is a Lexia device (some say a cable). And it has a DB15 high density connector that is used to connect to a computer. The connection is serial and goes to the USB port. The connector is the same as the VGA Port for the Monitor, but it has nothing to do with the VGA Monitor.

This is a non-original cable. It's a clone from Aliexpress. It may be outdated due to an inferior version. This cable will accurately diagnose cars up to 2013 – it works great in older cars. It won't connect to half the ECUs in newer models.

Yes it is old but it is only being used (or would be if it worked) on an old Xantia and a Peugeot 3008 (T8).

From other posts on this forum it seems 7.57 software is fine with 4.3.2 firmware. It worked before so why not now

Someone tried suggesting uninstalling 7.57 to downgrade back to 7.02 but it seems the uninstaller executable is missing off my laptop.

I’d love it get it up and running and an almost reluctant to buy a new full chip as this should be sufficient for my purposes.

The last thing I want to do is spend money to find out that it is a configuration issue.

I have 3 Lexia at present and one of them MUST be working.

Two light up when plugged into the USB port.
