C5x 360° Camera

I put down a deposit on the car on Saturday and asked the dealership to fix an issue with the 360° camera.

I picked up my C5 X yesterday after giving them two days to resolve it. I already thought the way the 360° camera behaved was unusual, and unfortunately, it was exactly the same when I collected the car.
The dealership said the issue had been fixed, so I’m wondering.... is this actually normal? I still took the car, assuming this might just be how it’s designed to work, especially since I have a 3-month warranty and I need the car asap.

A colleague at work mentioned that some cars’ 360° cameras do behave like this… but I’m not convinced. Is that true?

As I reverse, the 360° view seems to gradually unlock from the bottom of the image to the top, rather than showing a full 360° view straight away (see image).

I’ve done a lot of research but haven’t found a clear answer. I really need to know whether this is how the system is supposed to function or if something is wrong. I had assumed the camera would provide a constant, full 360° view, and I’d much prefer that if possible.

Welcome to the Forum & to the very small group of UK owners of the C5X

I asked Duck.ai "how many C5X's were sold in the UK in total?",
and the answer was
"As of early 2026, approximately 2,750 Citroen C5X cars were sold in the UK since its launch in mid-2021".[/i]

First question, Sense Plus, Shine or Shine+?

Yes and No.
Modern 'Cheaper' 360o camera systems, build up the top down picture as you drive.

Thanks sir! Feels good to be here. Already heard great reviews about this forum and I've only been here all of 2 hours. Seems like a really helpful community.

Do you have a ballpark figure of how many c5x's there are in the UK? - just for fun

I have the c5 X Shine Puretech so i guess this explains it.... Thanks a lot. Could you send the link to where you got that screenshot from?

My C4, which I think has the same generation camera and screen, works exactly as yours does. (I don't have the front camera which was a fcatory order extra). I think yours is working as designed.

Calling it a 360 camera is a bit of a misnomer really. It's a single wide angle lens camera at the back, in my case the middle of the 'lip' in the tailgate, plus some clever computing. When you select reverse it can only see whats behind you, but it remembers the scene and as you move back it builds a picture as if you had a drone hovering above. It captures a much wider view than you get on screen but somehow undistorts the whole thing to show you meaningful information. When you get to the back of the parking space it has got enough data to show you "as if it were" a top down picture. I don't know how long it rememembers it for, but certainly long enough so that if you pull forward to adjust your position in the space it still shows the picture.

On your screen on the right there is a second box down. That gives you a true 180 view, not much use for accurate manouvers but brilliant if you are backing out of a blind space or a blind driveway - you can 'see' (albeit distorted) any passing traffic or pedestrians.

I got my C4 new at a big discount about a year ago, I normally buy pre-owned, and the garage had a low mileage C5X in the showroom which I would have bought that instead - brillant value for money. My wife persuaded me that we are 'downsizing' , the C4 is plenty big enough and will go in the garage if we need it to. She was, of course, right but I still pine for a proper big Citroen.

Will give you an idea of how many are registered in the UK - it 'scrapes' data from the DVLA database. Probably not 100% accurate but good enough. If you click on the exact model you get a graph. Looks like fewer than 600 of 'yours'.

Theres about 250,000 mile of road in the UK so if they were all on the road at once and evenly distributed - neither of those things true of course - you might see one like yours every 430 miles :)

The SMMT has some sales data, you have to pay to get analysis, but some is freely available. https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrations/ and look along the 'tabs' above the full year simmary box. In 2025 Citroen sold 20k cars in all and are losing market share at a pace. Ford sold 3x as many Pumas as all Citroens combined. I can understand why the RHD C5x was dropped, the same fate as many large Citroens of old - brilliant cars but brand hunting advertised-at people want a BMW or Mercedes to go with their Omega watch and Vuitton suitcase.

I have to agree there Richard, my Timex watch and Poundstretcher suitcase led me to my hunt for a C5, the only problem being that it was a Sinclair!! :-D
