Yes, glad it found a home, if nothing else hoped to save other folks some money. Ah well.
looking at the brake pictures, The scoring ,i always thought was caused by grit , but I'm thinking now maybe an imperfection in the disc metal it self ?
Not sure, not sure if hard bit in the pads (or as you say, a hard bit of something else made it's way in the gap!) or flaws in the disk itself??

True , saves messing around , if there that price its worth it . Ive noticed lots of brake parts are good prices at the moment, thats why I've spent out ,ive saved about £70 getting both front and back ,the rear shoes came pre built when you get the old lot off ,you place the pre built unit on ,take the spacers out and they snap fit to where they sit, then pop them spring load pin things on and its done , oh , handbrake cable on first 😉.
Husky. :? Thinking outside of the box is better than sitting in a dark one.

Google search results (follow the source of what AI assembled) suggests "something hard digging into the rotor"
Deep, Sharp Grooves (Scoring)
This is where brake discs scratches become a serious concern. If you see one or more deep, distinct grooves that you can easily catch your fingernail on, this is a sign of a significant problem. This condition, known as scoring, indicates that something hard is digging into your rotor.

The most common cause of deep scoring is a brake pad that has been completely worn down to the metal backing plate. The steel of the backing plate grinds directly into the iron of the rotor, carving a deep groove. A less common cause is a small rock or piece of metal debris that has become trapped between the pad and the rotor.

I wouldn't recommend cleaning a brake disc with a flap disc, very difficult to avoid high or low spots. Spin the brake disc and use a flat abrasive across the face to keep it even. I built a home device some time ago for that purpose shown here, which actually spins a hub I fit the discs onto, and it works very well!! :-D

Agree Mick, it's possible to make a mess of it. I've usually removed negligible material from the disk surface (unlike any lip which does get taken down entirely) and have got away with it in the past.

I recall your disk rotator machine project Mick, but l must have missed it's completion (last I remember reading you'd an underpowered motor and so bought a mains drill - but don't think I read after that point)

That looks like a get it up on stands, engage second gear and run the engine at tickover to spin the discs while holding your abrasive, file, paper, pad etc still against it!! Hold it with grips to keep your fingers away from the spinning disc!! :)

Not a bad idea, but what about the back of the disk! :)

Take off the caliper, do the front , then bolt the disc on the wrong way round and do the back. :-D

Could do!

Having done a bit of digging:
Front measured diameter 305, actually 304mm
Thickness is apparently 28mm (which is why I couldn't get my 0-25mm micrometer over it, as well as the caliper and brake dust shield getting in the way.

These will get cleaned up and new pads.
Either Ferrodo from Autodoc or Bosch or Febi Bilstein options from Car Parts In Motion on eBay. About £30-35.

Rear measured 268mm is spot on.
Thickness is 12mm (but again I couldn't measure it well without disassembly - academic when I'm going to swap the rear disks)

After a bit of digging,

eBay, seller "Car parts in motion" I've got the following on order:
2x Brake Discs Pair Solid Rear 268mm 104508 Febi Set 1609582880 3642786 Quality
£38.14-£5.72 = £32.42

And
Brake Pads Set fits PEUGEOT 308 Mk2 1.2 Front 13 to 21 1609898580 1612412380 New
£26.67-£4.00 = £22.67

Does not seem to be much in the way of a "fitting kit" for the rear pads (possibly some small stainless sliders), front has a large spring clip. Existing looks ok, if I change my mind it's £4.59 for a pair of them from Autodoc.

If the sliders are coated with a black plastic stuff , keep your eye on it as that tends to melt and make the brake pads stick , as I found out when I cleaned my 308cc rear brakes , I cleaned it all off , brakes no longer stick, might be worth pulling it off before your fit them in place.

Good to know thank you.

Looking online, look to just be little thin stainless things:

If you file off the lip on both sides at one point on the disc you might be able to get your micrometer on. Likely the minimum thickness is 2 mm less than new so could be 26 mm and a 25 mm micrometer might just be able to measure that but be slightly more than the 25 mm marking.

The black plastic stuff on the back of pads wears through so when cleaning them up I remove it at the contact areas and use a bit of copper grease. If not removed the piston/caliper might not sit flat against the pad and also could make the brakes a bit spongy as it is compressed.

Yep, I did wind the micrometer a fair bit beyond it's range (1.5 turns, so 26.5 mm) but not going on. As rust is bigger than steel, the outer lip has likely gained a bit of thickness, so I will try again when I do the pad replacement and have ground the disk lips off - but am hoping at present it means I'm nearer the original 28 mm thickness! :)

Yep, serial copper greaser here too. Actually I will try to remember the "ceramic brake grease" I have got for this exact application!
