308 gearbox leak.

Unread post by Joecolew007 »

Hi all. I have a leak from the silicone seal between the item no2 in the picture and the main gear housing, my question is can part no2 circled red be safely removed and with everything eles on the car, obviously oil drained out first, it looks like its just a cover bit like a sump on its side. But cant risk a gearbox problem for the sake of repairing a small leak.. its a 1.6hdi engine in a 2012 308. Any help be appreciated. Cheers.

I don't know if you will get a definite answer from a member on this one but it might be worth addressing your question to a gearbox refurb company like the one in the link below: :)

It is just a cover, ok to remove and reseal, if there's room.

Yes, you can remove this - it covers up the 5th gear components, which can also be removed with the box in situ.

If that cover is rusty, the leak could be due to a pinhole.
