Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
I had a similar experience in a Hillman Imp, going through the Tyne Tunnel, not the best place for that to happen.
Pulled in as we exited the tunnel and wound them up as tight as I could. No further problem.

When you remember how many methods there are to keep nuts tight, from thread lock through spring washers to tabbed washers and castle nuts etc., it is perhaps odd that we don't have at least a pair of each wheel's nuts locked by some such method in view of the potential occurence of a wheel coming off at 70mph!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

That's true, but I guess it's mostly a case of "additional mitigation not required (so long as they are done up correctly!)"

Im with you Mick , when you think how fast the wheels turn and the stress on them from the steering positions, I always used to and still do wonder you some sort of (split pin) locking device was never used on them

My erstwhile white AX - now with Alasdair - once lost a rear wheel through loose studs.Huskyxantia wrote: 01 Dec 2025, 16:54 Im with you Mick , when you think how fast the wheels turn and the stress on them from the steering positions, I always used to and still do wonder you some sort of (split pin) locking device was never used on them

Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
Got myself a great deal off Ebay, 2 Bilstein rear Shocks £30 they were purchased by the seller whom was having a knock on the rear end but these didn't make any difference so they scrapped the car and sold these , so there in my ownership. I did try today to start the job as I had some sunny weather but once I removed the wheel arch liner I'd never seen so much dirt in my life by the time I cleaned it all I ran out of daylight so put all back id removed and wheel back on

Nice, beam on the back of these, similar to 308? (And therefore pretty straightforward job?) Weather and mountains of wheel arch muck dependent of course!!

True , my rear beam still has a plastic cover over it so i won't be jacking it in the mid section of it , unless I want to hear that nice crack sound plastic can produce

Good work Husky, I'm sure these "preventative tasks" pay dividends

Cheers Matt, don't know about you but when you see the rust patches , I tend to see how it looks sortmof 5 yr down the line (big holes lol) so I like to jump on this before the rot sets in, it was a cheap car and its been so good since May this year compared to the picasso that broke down 3 weeks after I got that .
