Hello,
I'm in the middle of doing the timing belt on my 2018 5008 and while taking the crank sprocket off, the oil pump sprocket tried to follow it and when I pushed it back on the crankshaft I noticed that the chain is quite loose. I almost thought it came of the pump sprocket, but that's fine.
I can't find specs anywhere. The chain looks fine. Is this normal for this chain on the Puretech?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas

As far as I know the sprocket is an integral part of the camshaft. This is why the cams are changed when making the 8mm chain conversion. If the sprocket is loose that's a very bad sign and needs changing. I'd look at the other camshaft sprocket very close. In fact I'd even think going down the complete 8mm conversion if you're that far into the engine.

Thanks Paul. However, I was referring to the oil pump chain that runs off the crankshaft behind the crank sprocket that the timing belt runs on.
Anyway, as an update - the chain did come off the oil pump sprocket. I checked using a mirror. I did manage to 'swing' it back onto the gear in the sump (so don't have to take that off) but that chain is still darned loose. The chain links don't seem to have any play in them so I guess that's how they are.

Is this for the 1.5 hdi engine and not the 1.2 Puretech ?Paul-R wrote: 04 Dec 2025, 17:42 As far as I know the sprocket is an integral part of the camshaft. Yes it is. My mistake. I was misled by the use of the word chain.

It's not a Puretech 1.2 with 3 cylinders and it's not a 1.5 HDI either. This engine has 4 cylinders. The oil pump has its own chain and it is certainly not good for it to be loose. Although I do not have the technical instructions that you should find. Since the chain does not have a spanner there must be a way to tighten it.

Hello all,
Quick update for the motor I happen to have
Unfortunately, the chain won't slip past the oil pump gear and engine wall. Approx 1.5 mm too narrow.
So... I shall travel forth with the loosey goosey chain I've got.
I've attached a pic after dropping the oil pan.
Cheers
