Changing C5 rear suspension ram boot - can't get piston retracted

Unread post by Oliver53 »

System depressurised with Lexia (during the process I heard actuating of valves, and suspension movement). Still the piston doesn't retract with a lever. It feels there's pressure in it. Any ideas please?

If the car is still on the ground, sometimes you have to make contact again and then switch off.

What I did:
Raise suspension to highest
Jack rear up (both sides), support with axle stands
Set the suspension to lowest
Depressurise with Lexia
Switch ignition off
Disconnect battery

So now rear end is in the air. What does it mean by make contact again?

Solved using the bleed screw

That is what I did when I replaced a rear boot and also I did not have a Lexia. I had a leaking boot so replaced it but it did not stop the leak and needed a new strut.

This is the wrong way to depresses the system, it should be in the low position and then depressed total by the diagbox.
By your way there is still a column of lds fluid in the strut and because you disconnect the battery the valves in the BHI are closed and this is why you can't move the piston inside the strut.

I followed all the instructions on the Lexia (including the last step of disconnecting battery). But you are probably correct, valves should be closed by default and that can explain the behaviour.

in my case it turned out that it leaked through where the rubber meets the strut surface becuase it's corroded. I applied some RTV will see if it works.
