Just received a letter from Peugeot, our 2019 308sw needs the rear seat belt anchorage reinforcing or it might rupture in a crash. Maybe somebody has been injured to cause this safety recall.

Now booked in at our dealer in a couple of weeks and they also said it has a recall for the camshaft (1.5 hdi). It was serviced in May by them so this might be a new check as part of their extended 10 year warranty. If it was not for the seat belt safety recall we might have not found out about the camshaft one until it next had a service at a dealer since we have not received any letters about it. The seat belt recall is now on the gov MOT check site against our car but just noted as a safety recall and no details given.

That's interesting Paul, It does raise the question about when a recall is directly notified, is it only where safety is involved whereas the car breaking will bring more work to the dealer if they haven't recalled it if safety was not a concern?

Searches on MWL suggest the rear seat belt upper anchorage points may not be strong enough, interesting to see what they are going to do to fix it. Affects cars 2015 to 2019. Previous recalls on other cars include putting a grease filled sticker on a C4 bonnet latch and riveting a strap to the Cactus bonnet latch so as cheap as they can manage.
The camshaft recall looks to be MXL and includes thicker oil (it had already been thicker from Jan 2024), a software update (hopefully not to reduce power, it could do with more already) and listening to the engine noise. I thought for over a year the engine did not sound good but our dealer said they all make that noise. The recall looks to be a gradual one with letters being sent out gradually. Changing the oil from 0w-30 to 5w-30 last year resulted in the engine sounding rattly on starting until warmed up a bit.
There might also be another recall coming to check for loose nuts on the high pressure fuel pipes after fires in France.

Seat belt anchor points is one heck of a surprising issue - that kind of thing should never make it out of modern CAD modelling!

I guess it’s possible it’s a manufacturing issue yes, but that feels less likely to me. Would be very interesting to see what the repair is.

Our 308 is in today for the MWL (rear seat belt) and MXL (cam shaft chain) recalls but it will not be ready until late so we will collect it tomorrow. Not sure what is being done but on the phone when asking if it is ready they said the cam shaft recall is a sticker and a change of oil and filter so the oil spec must have been changed again in the 2 months since it was last serviced. I did not take it this morning but Mrs P was told a new chain was being fitted, I am not sure so will check tomorrow.
The seat belt recall turned out today to be a check of the car from which they have said it needs new parts that have now been ordered so it will need to go back again. I would not be surprised if it was a cheap solution that involved a long bolt from the seat belt top mounting going through to the outside with a big plate welded on to give extra strength and a grease filled sticker for rust prevention to avoid a respray.

Got the car back, the seat belt recall can not be done yet since the required parts are on back order and they said they have not done one yet.
The cam shaft chain check was ok so they just changed the oil and filter with the latest spec oil and put a sticker on the slam panel with the oil spec on it. As it happens the new oil spec is the same as they started using at the start of 2024 as used in our last 2 services. The spec is 5W30 FPW9.55535/03. I got a print out of the latest service schedule and it is the same as last year so nothing has changed in that time. The last service was in May so the oil change was not really needed. The car is on 20k miles.

It took 2 months for Pentagon to get the seat belt parts. These are square plates with a boss in the middle which will be riveted at the corners to the pillar and I suspect the belt top mounting bolt will go through it. Being done tomorrow. Hopefully the rivets will be strong but it does not involve any welding.

I can understand them wanting to avoid welding. But I’m surprised riveting is the answer they’ve come up with for something like that…
