Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates

Hi all,
I have a C3 III PureTech 82ch from 2017, that I bought second hand 2 months ago. The software has probably never been updated by the previous owner, and as I was not able to have Android Auto working, I tried to update it with Citroën Update tool to the latest version of the RCC Wave 3 (6_0431_23.2I41.1). I could successfully create the USB key, but the car update failed with error 8, and since then, the system remains in update status, even after having disconnected the battery more than 5 minutes. I have consequently lost control of the A/C system, the radio, the phone bluetooth connection, the car settings ...
I tried to create a key with an older software version that I have downloaded here (https://sites.google.com/view/nac-rcc/system), but then I have the update error code 33, probably due to the missing license. And I tried to create a license with the link provided in other messages, but it does not work (https://majestic-web.mpsa.com/mjf00-web ... UUUUUUUUUU). I understood it could be due to a certificate issue ...
VIN of the vehicule is : VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Do you have any idea how I could restore even an old SW version ?

If there is no possibility to solve it and I have to go through an HW exchange, which HW should I change, the display of the box behind the display ?

Thanks for your help !

Any update about this issue. Anybody knows?
Hello Owl,

Same situation from my side, no change. Using the Update app with my VIN, every time I download updates, it still shows expired signing certificates (expired in November 2024) when I check them locally.

What you can do now:
  • Wait for newly signed files from Stellantis, or
  • Ask an authorized dealer to perform the update (they may have internal access or a different process).
Kind regards.

Hello Subasha,
I already went to authorized dealer but unfortunately they couldnt solve the issue. Well, I am really surprised that 5 years old car multimedia system is out of update. It seems only solution is first option. Wait for Stellantis to sign certificates. :( Did you manage to update?

The only way that Stellantis will action creation of the updated files is if they get enough complaints in the system. Get you dealer to file a complaint with Stellantis.

There are 3 different 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 firmware+map updates for the NAC Wave 3 infotainment system, all of them have expired signing certificates:
Mon, 22 Sep 2025 09:55:58 GMT: https://majestic-web.mpsa.com/nas/eu/mj ... _WAVE3.tar (24 874 291 200 bytes);
Wed, 11 Dec 2024 16:40:00 GMT: https://ds4emloty3shq.cloudfront.net/CO ... _WAVE3.tar (24 874 096 640 bytes);
Thu, 22 Dec 2022 23:03:57 GMT: https://download-cde.tomtom.com/OEM/PSA ... _WAVE3.tar (24 874 301 440 bytes).

The difference between those 3 files is precisely the certificates used, but because they are all expired, it is impossible to install. So if your system is still identified as a NAC_EUR_WAVE3, only PSA/Stellantis could fix it.

Some vehicles with the 3x.xx.xx.xx_NAC-r0 firmware version are now identified in "Peugeot Update" (or in my site) as a NAC_EUR_WAVE4, and those could be updated to the 44.07.33.32_NAC-r0 version, but you have to prepare the USB flash drive manually, including the license file. The "Peugeot Update" software, in this case, only offers the 17.0.0-r0 European map, but it needs a 4x.xx.xx.xx firmware already installed...

Hero is back! My version is 31.09.46.62_NAC-r0. Citroen update offers me 17.0.0-r0. First I need to change software from wave3 to wave4. Question is can I use peugeot (most probably I cannot use) update on citroen? Second question is I personally have limited access to get new info about this update. When stellantis/psa solve this issue, can you please inform us here ?

@owl : So you are in the second case - your car has the 3x.xx.xx.xx firmware version installed, but it is already identified as a NAC_EUR_WAVE4 system. You need to download the latest NAC Wave 4 firmware (44.07.33.32_NAC-r0) and you also need the respective license for that version (MediaVersion/UpdateID 001315031692686757) and your infotainment system serial number/unique identifier (UIN). To do that, you need to know your UIN, a 20-digit hexadecimal number. You might have an old license file ("license_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx_001315031*.key") or you could export the current infotainment system configuration to a FAT32-formatted USB flash drive:
- Press the cog/hours (top right corner);
- OPTIONS (lower left);
- System settings (top left);
- System info (lower right);
- Export config.

And it should create 2 files, "instkey_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xml" and "packageslist_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.txt". All those xxx...xxx is your UIN. You can also see your UIN in the "Engineering mode":
- Press and hold the media/audio button (2 semiquavers) for 6 to 7 seconds (use a timer);
- Input 1134 in the code (you should not see any output);
- Input 1122;
- Go to the last page and search for "SUID: (--------------------), UIN: (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)".

Download the license key file for that MediaVersion and UIN at (replace the xxx...xxx with your UIN):

Code: Select all

https://majestic-web.mpsa.com/mjf00-web/rest/LicenseDownload?mediaVersion=001315031692686757&uin=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Copy that file to a "\license" folder and extract (do not copy) the .tar update file to the same FAT32-formatted USB flash drive.

Edit:
After that firmware update, you could use the official "Citroën/DS/Opel/Peugeot/Vauxhall Update" to download the latest NAC Wave 4 map, map-eur_17.0.0-r0.

FINALLY!
The certificates have been updated, so you can now upgrade from Wave 3 to Wave 4. The Peugeot Update program no longer downloads the large update (firmware + maps) — only the firmware, which is about 6 GB. I expect that once the system is updated, the option to update the maps will become available. I haven’t checked this yet.

Mine is 5.74 GB only. I haven't try it yet.
Why is it only 5.74 GB when the old files were 25 GB?

Previously, the file also included the maps.

The old file (24 874 096 640 bytes) also included the European map 10.0.0-r0. The new file (6 158 254 080 bytes) only has the 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 firmware, and it is the exact same firmware, but signed with valid certificates.

After installing this update, you must manually install the 17.0.0-r0 European map (or other zone) for the NAC Wave 4 - it will take some time for Stellantis to acknowledge you already have a Wave 4 infotainment system, so the "Citroën/DS/Opel/Peugeot/Vauxhall Update" software won't be able to offer you any updates for Wave 4. For the same reason, you won't be able to update the system to the latest 44.07.33.33_NAC-r0 - no license is available.

Thank you both for the answer.
So, after FW update should I download the map file from citroen update app or from your site?

@kakavia : You probably won't be able to use the official "X Update" software, until your system is identified as a NAC_EUR_WAVE4 (NAC Wave 4). Because you don't need any license to install the map updates, you can manually prepare the USB flash drive and download the file from my site.
