PSA NAC RCC Updates
Hi,
I recently bought a second-hand Citroen C3 (3° Series) 2016 (1.5 BlueHDI S&S Feel).
I've tried updating the touch screen firmware via the instructions provided by Citroen, by using the "Citroen Update" application on windows to prepare a USB stick. When I plug it into the car, it says that the version is not compatible with hardware and fails. I've tried with a different USB stick (16 GB and 32 GB) and it gives the same problem.
Following this discussion:
viewtopic.php?t=72291 which says that it may be related to a licence issue, I checked that the SOS light stays ON green when I turn on my car for a couple seconds, then shuts off. I also tried updating while connected to phone hotspot wifi, it still doesn't work.
The firmware version currently installed is 21.05.90.42_NAC-r1 while the Citroen software (which I inputed my VIN to) is saying that version 21-08-87-32_NAC-r1_NAC_EUR_WAVE2 is available for my car.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
Thank you,
Giuseppe

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Re-download the software, if it is corrupted it won't install.
You may want to bypass the Citroen app, download it directly to your PC, then unpack the compressed files directly onto your USB. Make sure your vehicle is running throughout the update otherwise it can brick your Head Unit if the firmware installation is interrupted.
21-08-87-32_NAC-r1_NAC_EUR_WAVE2.tar
The App in notoriously bad for some people.

Thank you! I've tried downloading twice (from the app). Now I'm downloading it from your link and I will test it soon.
Do I need to include a license file (from the app) or are the files in the compressed folder enough?

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
You don't need a licence file as the vehicle will get this 'over the air' with a connected system.

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Hi! I tried copying the files on a new USB stick and it didn't work again. It still says that the version is not compatible with the hardware. I forgot to add that I bought my car from a french guy (so it was licensed in France, before). Now I've registered it in Italy. Maybe this can be an issue when the car tries to retrieve a license for the update?
Thank you again for your help!

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
The VIN number is internationally recognised so would still identify the vehicle on PSA's Navigation websites, and I have no reason to doubt they are country -specific, otherwise it would prevent people all over the world updating the vehicle head units and maps if they were travelling or on holiday.
I would throw this back to the dealer in Naples Giuseppe, but before that, do you have your VIN handy (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff) so that I can check your vehicle for WiFi status etc?

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Ok, so I just wanted to check that you had onboard WiFi via the telematic receiver, so the licence file is picked up from that data connection. There's no need to tether your smart phone with the vehicle.
So make sure you have any Smart Phone WiFi connection disabled first of all so it does not interfere with the vehicle's on-board WiFi connection when checking vehicle details.

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion! I just tried disabling both bluetooth and wifi hotspot and I tried plugging the USB in with both "WiFi" enabled or disabled. Unfortunately, this didn't work and every time the "incompatibile with hardware" message popped up.
It may be of interest that I found a page with availability of connected services but it says "Not available" (see attachment)

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Ok so the first option is just telling you that there is no subscription for 'Live Connected Services', but that won't prevent system or map updates.
If the green LED comes on for a few seconds then goes off, the telematic unit is working correctly. I'm not sure what else to suggest, short of telling the dealer it won't update, with the error message, despite having followed all the guidance.

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Apologies if I should not be posting this reply here, I am new here.
Hi! I have this same problem of "version not compatible with hardware", it has been 2 weeks I have searched all over for the solution, so far I have tried:
* 2 different USB drives
* Load update with Citroen Update app
* Manual download and unzip on the drive
* Manual download and unzip on desktop and copy on the drive
* USB drive formatted with different allocation unit sizes
* together with "Updateinfo.xml" and without
* Together with "license" folder and without
* Together with license key file loaded on USB drive and without
* Mobile hotspot on and off
Nothing works, I am getting the same message "version not compatible with hardware"
Can anyone help? my vin code is: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Car is Citroen C3 2019 Automatic 1.2 Petrol

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Again, just to reiterate this issue generally....
1) These systems need a licence file to pair the Head unit up with the update file.
2) To do that your vehicle must have on board Wifi (and be in an area where you have a good data signal! ).
3) If your vehicle does not have on-board WiFi, then you need to connect a smart phone and tether your phone's mobile data connection to the car. Again, your mobile phone must be in an area with good mobile data reception. Once you have tethered the connection, you'll need to make sure the car is connected. Then try the update shortly after.
4) Last you can attempt to update via USB as long as you have a valid licence file (and note that the licence file can change for each software file) - so you likely won't be able to use the same one with a different version of map or firmware software.

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Well, here's what happened yesterday, I have updated the map only. I managed this by:
- loading only maps update file on USB
- changing the folder name from license to licence
This is now visible in my Citroen app too (it does not show 2 pending updates, but only one - the system one)
The thing is, I was connected to the same network, I used the same license file as downloaded from Citroen Update app, but when I am trying to load the system update now, it again gives me the message that version is not compatible. So, I guess it is not the problem of connection :/

Re: PSA NAC RCC Updates
Check that there is not a separate licence file for the firmware update - these often have different licences for each update.
