The 1.6 has the 14" "pepperpot" alloys normally rather than the 15" speedlines as shown.
On the 306 with 15" it is common to swap the standard tyres ( I think 195 rather than 185 width of the 205 wheels/tyres) in 55 profile for 50 profile
I.e. 195/50R15 in place of standard 195/55R15
When I last bought tyres for my 306 (on 15" "cyclones") they were about a third cheaper like for like in the 50 profile!

It may be cheaper Matt but it hardens the ride even though it possibly improves the cornering a tad. Personally I'd rather have the more comfy ride and sacrifice a couple of mph around the corners!!

No perceptible difference on the 306 for me Mick, it's only a tiny change remember (10mm of sidewall and still nice tall 97mm of it on the lower profile - according to this handy site: You'll have to let them off for misspelling Tyremickthemaverick wrote: 24 Jul 2025, 19:05 It may be cheaper Matt but it hardens the ride even though it possibly improves the cornering a tad. I do agree on the benefits of plenty of sidewall though, hence why on my blue 308 SW I swapped the 18" wheels for 16" (with taller tyre sidewalls for a similar overall diameter) for comfort. Indeed as sidewall inches are lighter than aluminium rim inches, the corresponding reduction in unsprung weight and less rotating mass should be a performance benefit too
The grey 308 SW has also dropped (17" to 16") though I wonder if - as it's smaller front brakes - I could have dropped that one another inch.
I've seen an image of a 308 SW of that generation with 208 15" alloy wheels fitted, so I know it's possible

Definitely can't go smaller than 16" on the blue 308!

I'm watching this auction live, and whilst I hesitate to say the cars are going cheap, they don't seem to be going for silly money. Relatively cheap access to classic motoringmickthemaverick wrote: 23 Jul 2025, 11:38 Don't be fooled by the title, there are some rare but interesting cars in this sale, so which will it be for you? I'm still mulling as there are a number of examples of cars I've owned before to eliminate before I pick from the rest!!![]()
There is also a second chance to go for the Peugeot 304 featured in the last sale!! Hmmm!!

This one just might get the nails into the scalp, a word of advice for the Paggers dwellers, look through all the options, 2 pages, before jumping on the 205!!

Mulling complete and it was a close run thing for me. In the end the Mk1 Mini Cooper came third behind the rather modified V8 Consul Classic but the winner just has to be back to my old stomping grounds:

But then, you knew I would
There was another two that caught my eye but as soon as I saw that Cooper S, nothing else came close

I thought that the Cooper S came with either 970cc, 1071cc or (later) 1275cc engines. The 997 engine was fitted to the early Coopers and quickly replaced by the ubiquitous 998 engine.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

The 1990 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC will do for me, I think that will polish up quite nicely
