Cigarette lighter from on with ignition to always on

Unread post by Virtakayttoinenkettu »

Hello and good day, chaps and chapettes!

I've been trying to figure out if it is possible to have the cigarette lighter always getting power in my Citroen C2. Any ideas? Could faffing about with the fuse positions work or something like that?

Thanks in advance!

I think you may find an answer by referring to this fusebox diagram and then splitting the wiring to feed the cigarette lighter from a newly installed 30A fuse and, I would advise, a cut-off toggle switch. Bear in mind that having an aux socket permanently powered is as good a way as any of having the battery go flat overnight when someone accidentally leaves something plugged in!! :)

That's interesting Mick, was thinking of putting a small solar panel on the dash to trickle charge the battery.

Do you mean connect the panel via the cigar lighter Ryan? :)

:rofl2: Then I'd put a diode in circuit to prevent the battery being drained when the panel is not active as they can impose a reverse load on the battery. That type of thing is usually incorporated in the panel circuitry but it doesn't hurt to be sure: :)

The only reason I want this feature is because of my camping fridge. The thing doesn't use all that much power and I could easily run the thing for a whole 24 hours before needing to drive to charge etc.

I'll look into your idea. Thanks!

Are you sure about how much power it draws?
12v Coolboxes/fridges are normally very power hungry & can flatten a car battery in no time.

I left a cool box plugged in overnight accidentally a few years ago and it flattened the battery completely.
