Hi,
Here is my VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
The dipstick got broken/split inside the engine, I have no idea what happened or when it happened. But I have noticed that there is oil leak, and so I was curious, then I found-out the dipstick got split. I'm suspecting that the remainder of the dipstick is still left inside the engine. I'm planning to have a mechanic repair the car on monday, and I'll have him do an oil change + get the part of the dipstick out to avoid potential engine damage.
I'd like the part number for the dipstick to this car. Also, if there is a recommendnation for metal ones, I don't understand why they used plastic at the most critical part of the stick.
Thank you.

Re: DS5 Hybrid4 Dipstick
I have had a few PSA vehicles with broken dipstick, the broke piece shouldn't do any harm left inside, If it makes it to the sump, I had a C4 1.6 HDI 2005 in workshop, the broken piece was stuck in the bend in the dipstick tube, then jammed the new one. Had to remove sump to retrieve it. If your tube is straight it might just drop into sump and cause no problems
Thanx to all the admins & knowledgeable people that make this the best forum on the interweb. BUT COME BACK MARC , We miss you!

Re: DS5 Hybrid4 Dipstick
The tube is not straight, and the leak is somewhere around the same time that I started to have oil leak.
I may be wrong, or may be because of the slow oil leak, but I have noticed the engine sounds a light bit different. It's a bit more harsh that I'd like it to sound. I'm not sure if it's related though.
In all cases, I'll need a replacement for the dipstick.

I had a lipstick snap on my 2.0Hdi. I too was told it probably will be okay, drove the car for a while without any problems. However, did eventually removed the sump and retrieved the broken end, took about 4 hours and a lot of swearing.
I don't think metal replacements are available.

Same 2.0HDI engine also here. So, it's likely a common issue on this model.

Re: DS5 Hybrid4 Dipstick
Some years ago I aquired a Renault Espace with a missing dipstick. I went to the dealer to order a replacement to find there was a 6 week delay in supply. The dealer suggested I simply plug the hole with a rubber bung in the meantime.
When I got home a thought occurred to me and I had some 12 guage wire so I drilled a bung and pushed a couple of feet through the bung. I went back to the dealer who had a similar car on the forecourt and borrowed the dipstick to cut my creation to length and then I scratched max and min points onto it from the original. Back home I inserted the homemade version and there it remained for the next few months until my ordered replacement arrived (not in 6 weeks as quoted!). Easy to make and do the job as long as you can find an original to calibrate it from!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

The easy bit is that the bolts are to get to and undo.
Then you have to separate the sump to block joint, they didn't use a gasket, they used a string sealant.
All the books have a small o-ring to deal the threads.
Becarefull when cleaning the old sealant off, don't damage/distort the surfaces.
Degrease, apply sealant and replace.
Putting the o-rings around the bolts is a pain.
I used a thin paint scraper to push in the joint to separate the joint.

BigClive uses a tool he calls a "Spudger" that would be applicable:-Sloppysod wrote: 25 Jul 2025, 16:35 I used a thin paint scraper to push in the joint to separate the joint.
Similar to this.
Amazon have zillions of them, all different and for different purposes, eBay too no doubt.

Re: DS5 Hybrid4 Dipstick
Hey guys,
I got the part of the dipstick out. Had my mechanic open the oil pan, and had an oil change at the same time. To our surprise, there was already 2 remaining parts of dipstick in there, so this is very common issue with this car. So, I have decided not to buy one new, but instead, I'll find a way to craft and bind the piece that got cut with the stick.
It's not worth it to buy new only to find-out it will still get lost in the oil pan, pretty much guaranteed.
Thanks for your inputs.
