Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)

Unread post by Huskyxantia »

9th of June 2025 a thud from 5 down to 3rd no clutch ....bye bye c3 picasso. So many hours of Internet searching and a numb brain and giving up a friend emails me and sends me a link for this little car , so off I went on Wednesday arrived at the garage at 4.30 had a look over the car plugged it into the diagnostic 3 codes ( which later turn out to be historic !) I left a small deposit and drove back home arranging the journey back the next morning to go over the car again & get it taxed (£20) plus insurance transfer (£1.61) cool or what ... myself & the wife made our way home , well sort of , we drove to the next small town ( more like a large village ) stopping for lunch at our favourite bakery's. The car drove good apart from this rythmactic tick from from passenger side and a knock , all gear pulled well brakes stopped when needed and the temperature sat on the 79, 80 mark , were it normally does. So parking at a country park we had our lunch then made our way back home , same noises same rhythm... so juggling the cars about the car was parked on my drive with room to check the passenger side front wheel area, the ticking was a cable tie it was flicking off the rust bits on the hub when the wheel was spinning , wedged between the caliper and disc facing upwards towards the hub , pulled that out the way job done , my worst fears were laid to rest as I thought this other noise was wheel bearing , turns out the top tie rod was absolutely worn out , new one in the shed & on it went & the tracking all done with my old string method , noises all gone !! Very pleased too. Photos to come when I get more time as I'm very busy till next week . Overall it looks like it will need the inner tie rods and the gaiters doing and that's about it as far as I found .

More next week .

Well done then, nothing like a rogue cable tie to cause a heart attack!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

A quick photo more will follow .
I mentioned 3 fault codes in a previous post , while going through some service history it had a new camshaft sensor fitted along with the battery being charged too . Code read aswell is what has been written down on the invoice.,So the codes I found relate to that & didn't get cleared. When changing the tie rod earlier ( I did it as soon as I got home ) the inner tie rod gaiters look very dry cracked and one was spilt so 2 are on order ive already 2 inner tie rods so sometime next week I will fit them on . Then a service and 3 weeks I'm going to put it through an mot. The car has failed mots I the past on bulbs , wipers and brake pads.
More to come

I've had a 207 Husky, I rate them quite highly and mine was in that colour too...

Very easy to work on.

In 1.6 HDi form it should be very good. Mine was a 1360cc petrol with the twin-cam VVT ET series engine. It was a bit thirsty for petrol though - it's only real fault - except for its almost standard ET/TU cylinder head oil leak!

Hello I'm back , God I've been so busy but here's an up date and I will get some photos of the car soon as I can but here we go.

Ive had several runs with the 207 and it's had the temperature sensor float up and down but no over heating , the sensor is naff so new one ordered and today I with a struggle god help me ( I think he did at one point ) new Cambelt, pulleys and water pump all fitted this afternoon at just over 148 thousand miles. The old water pump was dated 2012 ..... shock 😲 🫨 🫢 and had very rubbish movement , the belt had more crack(s) than Keith Richard has ever had in his life 🙄 so I think 🤔 I did the right thing. A very dear old friend of mine whom passed away covid time once said to me always do a new timing belt kit when ever you get another car , it's better to be safe than sorry, unless you have some history to back up otherwise.
It was so nice putting the last bolt back in and topping up the coolant and firing it up and it bursting into life 🎶 🙌 👌 perfect my lovely wife came out and gave me a peck on the check ( no my shorts were not down like a builders style ) my face checks ,and she said well done ,then had to help me up off the ground as I'd locked up lol 😀 🤣 🤣 🤣 flipping hip....

I've seen a small hole in the driver side front chassis extension leg but have seen this isnt under any mot fails ,but I'm going to weld a plate about 2 inches thempn black it over, the passenger side top tie rod was done the other week as it was naff, I've got inner , outer tie rods , drop links , lower wish bones which turned up 24 hrs after I ordered them so they can be sorted when I have time. I think that's about it , oh oil and filter change too then it should be ok, the timing belt kit was a gates £96, which was purchased for the 308cc so I've got another one which will be here next week , the complete suspension parts were £89 .99 with £20 off and ive got oil and filters in the shed so all in all not to bad I guess.

The c3 picasso is still sitting on the drive looking like it ain't got a clue what it should do, do miss it but no I can't go through that feeling of wondering if the thing will go wrong after repairs so it will go , even if I scrap it at least I can get 340£ or there abouts.
That's about it for now . Anything else happens I will report back .

Sounds like you dodged a bullet with that cambelt and water pump Husky! I've always done that when I'm acquired a car with no clear history...

Shame about the C3 Pic :( I reckon it would be a superb project for someone...

Oh so true a bullet well dodged there Jim. I ordered some 1.6mm mig welding rods 3 days ago they arrived today and I can say the hole is no more . Hole cleaned back to fresh metal wasn't as bad as I was thinking it would be then a nice piece of new mild steel 1.6mm thick tacked in place then here's the good bit I found the sweet spot on this little welder ive got and puddled it all in it's completely covered with new plate and nice weld filling all over , I gave it a smack with a hammer and it made a lovely hard thud ! Nice .

Zinc primmer applied then found some silver hammerite in the shed from way back so thought ok 👍 use it so it's all painted with that too.

Next job thermostat housing replacement, will post back soon

Nice feeling knowing you've completed a task to the car, should have the new thermostat housing on it today , funny how they don't supply the bleed valve . You get everything else apart from that . I will get some photos today so watch this space.

Had to take the bleed valve out the old unit , as you can see, the photo of everything that needs to be moved ! Boy what a mare , then a photo of it all back together and at last a working gauge , im in the car now letting it run up it's been purged of air but we all know sometimes these don't always let go of the air , the picasso was a nightmare for bleeding
