For you folks with a wood burning stove/ chimney.
I use one of these to sweep my two woodie's lined chimneys. Works a treat with no effort.
For those wondering what this is doing here, a chimney brush is known in France as a Herisson which is a Hedgehog in English. :-D

I discovered the reason why our hedgehogs have had competition for their dinner! :-D

Back in the 1940s my mother had one of those, she wore it round her neck. :)

Spotted a couple of hedgehogs snuffling around the grass at the front of the house, looked like they were finding insects and hopefully slugs.
One was already there and a bigger one came through the tunnel (my house partly forms a tunnel through to the small car park at the rear. They possibly sleep in the bushes there during the day, although the path continues into a large tree-filled park a bit further on.

I can't remember that last time I saw a hedgehog but there were loads of them, often in the garden before the new fence went up at least a dozen years ago.
Heard a can blowing down the street, looked out and saw:-
IMG_20260604_193243608_MP.jpg
(can't see much for all the trees)
Three lads very interested in something, that turned out to be a hedgehog that they were taking pictures of.
Went to get it before it was run over and there was a car waiting there for it to move.
The woman driving asked about it and said there are plenty of them in the park, 20 yards from where it is.

Forgot to take any photographic equipment of course.

Carted it back into the park quite a way and deposited it deep in among the trees. Deep among because as I made my way into the trees there are hundreds of dogshit bags tossed there by the local tossers :(

The fields in the park are the route that my grandkids used to take to school and are known as 'The Dogshit Fields' for obvious reasons.

I particularly noticed yesterday while perambulating the park footpaths the amount of dogpiles on the verges. Disgusterous.

Many will disagree but I seriously dislike dogs and cats and that does nothing to endear me to them. :argue:

I'm ambivalent about them. Some I like and many I dislike, especially small, yappy little ankle-biters and fashion statement dogs. I expressly dislike those that look deformed and seem to have difficulty walking and breathing. And those who always seem to need to wear a silly little coat.

My overriding thought is that there are far too many of them, many in the hands of owners who have no clue how to train and control them

Now, on the subject of hedgehogs: what's not to love about them :)
