Engine cooling fan runs on after switch off

Unread post by Vic Evans »

We live about 7km from our nearest town & sometimes, after a visit in our 2014 C4 hdi millenium the cooling fan runs on for probably 5 mins after returning home & 'switching off'. I don't recollect the car doing this before during the 11 years we've had it but can't really be sure as it's my who uses it the most. Is this normal? (the fan running not her driving it  )
It's an easy non stop drive at 70/80 km/hr .
It's due for a dealer service at the end of this month so she'll mention this but I'm curious as it seems to be happening more frequently.

They do that if a DPF regen is in progress when engine stopped. But if it's doing it all the time, suggestive of a fault somewhere. How many km has it done?

It's not that often as far as I know . I only know about it if she remembers to tell me or I hear it running when she returns home & parks it in our crinkley tin barn. Doesn't seem to be outside temp. dependent. She's just returned . 22C outside temp & no fan running with engine off.
It's done just over 120,000km

'Sounds' like it was just coincidence and it was mid regen when stopped. 120k km is not really far enough for the ECU to think the DPF is end of life (usually around 100-110k miles so 160-175k km) - and in this case usually you just get a continuous Risk of DPF Clogging error message.

Thanks for reply Richard. That'll put Mme's mind at rest.
I used to rebuild & race cars many years ago but haven't a clue about modern stuff with all the anti pollution & other stuff run by computers so leave things to our excellent local agents to service & sort out the extremely few minor problems I/we've had with Peugeot & Citroen vehicles.

If not already done, the timing belt was due for replacement at 10 years old, just a reminder and nothing to do with the fan running.
