Ah, is it actually a car? What with your 2 stroke Trabant, which sounded awesome when you were driving away, are you buying a lawnmower???

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Nope. Bit more than I paid for it, but recognising that it is still a rolling project rather than ready to go straight into regular use. If I start advertising more widely I'll probably stick a bit more on - but I'd rather let folks on a couple of forums who might otherwise feel they're cars that have got out of reach a bash at it first.
Doing this because I enjoy cars, not to make money. Or have any sense - see also what's been spent on the Trabant in the last year!

Meant to include in the end of that last post before I distracted myself - not any other variation of the ADO16 either.
Also a good guess given how smitten I was with the one I recently borrowed.

You weren't far off in terms of engine capacity with the Triumph.

If it'd be the oldest car you've owned, then it'll have to go some to pre-date that old Rover
Armstrong Siddeley ?
Very early Series One Landy - only on your driveway for one night only before it gets nicked ?
Morgan ? (unlikely)
Lanchester ?
Sell everything you own and buy a Bristol ?
I could very much see you in an early Rolls

Doubt a Series Landy would make it to night around here! Plus they're utterly daft money. Which is a shame as I've a soft spot for the Series three - spent a lot of time in or behind the wheel of one at the farm I grew up just along the road from.
If I was going to have something with go anywhere ability though it would have to be another Lada Niva. Near enough as capable as a Landy - in some situations in the right hands moreso because they're so much lighter - and orders of magnitude more pleasant when you're actually on the road. There is actually meaningful suspension for a start.
Lanchester is something that's on my radar for the future, but isn't really something I'd enjoy where I live now - being able to pick up it's heels and keep up with modern traffic is pretty much essential for anything I'm going to want to use regularly. The incomer will indeed tick this box quite happily.
A Roller will happen one day, but that will definitely not be a spur of the moment purchase - it will be through a well reputed specialist for a pretty substantial wedge of money and will have documentation showing the terrifying jobs have all been done and a warranty. Most likely a mid to late 80s Silver Spirit, ideally in royal blue. They're just by far the easiest to live with - just as lovely to travel in as the Shadow, but has modern niceties like fuel injection and ABS. The latter is a nice to have on nearly three tonnes of barge. It's an ownership experience you need to go into eyes open though - everything is expensive, and there's absolutely no such thing as a cheap Roller. Cheap to buy, yes. However unless you are *incredibly* lucky a cheap one won't stay that way. I've been lucky enough to drive one basically identical to my description here a good couple of thousand miles that belonged to a friend back up north - which is why one is absolutely on The List.
Haven't ever been in a Bristol I didn't like (be they cars or buses) - even if quite a few of them are...odd...looking things. Lovely engineering. Way outside my budget though - and a car I'd probably be afraid to ever actually drive. Unless it was an RE or VR I guess...then folks can just get the heck out of my way.
Mark I Jag - again would love one but way too pricey for me these days. You'd need to add a digit to the pricetag I'm looking at here for a halfway decent one.
