Re: Trivia Investigation Team
But then I wouldn't be able to read the maker or the date Steve?

Not sure you've actually realised what's happening Jim, you do need to watch the video!!

Re: Trivia Investigation Team
You already know the maker and the date is unimportant.
Mine, a cheap Lorus, keeps perfect time, years old and second hand.
It just sits on the desk most of the time though, I rarely need it.

Just seen it Mick, did not even see it was a video - thought it was still photo and showing rubbish timekeeping... You know me, I ignore videos by defaultmickthemaverick wrote: 28 May 2025, 12:04Not sure you've actually realised what's happening Jim, you do need to watch the video!!![]()
Shame it's now OK, you could have sold it as a time-machine and made a fortune with a device that can wind back time
Wonder what caused that then

Re: Trivia Investigation Team
I changed a battery in a clock once and that started going backwards. I checked the battery in case it had reversed polarity but not and when I put the battery back in it then ran normally.

Re: Trivia Investigation Team
When I was a lad, we had a mains clock on the kitchen wall that would more often than not start running backwards after a power cut. The kind of motors in those were such that it was 50:50 which way they'd start up..PaulC5 wrote: 28 May 2025, 12:14 I changed a battery in a clock once and that started going backwards. Most clocks using those motors had a mechanism that would wind up if the clock was going backwards and then unwind with enough energy to 'kick' the motor into rotating in the correct direction.
The mechanism in ours was broken.
Same here Steve, I rarely have need of a watch to tell the time - my world is full of clocks of various sorts and a watch as a timepiece is hardly ever necessary.myglaren wrote: 28 May 2025, 12:09 It just sits on the desk most of the time though, I rarely need it.
For many, many years I never wore a watch. It was when I started running seriously I started to wear one again and I wear it far more for the useful physiological data it gives me and for logging runs...

Re: Trivia Investigation Team
Like my mother, I always knew the time to within ± 5 minutes. Could always wake whenever I wished to without an alarm clock.
No idea how that worked and it is completely unreliable now.
Always had a watch, rarely looked at it.

I still can Steve! I'm truly a human alarm clock - and a pretty accurate one at that
