Yes, that's my understanding of the ordinary TRV. They gradually open and close with changes in temperature. Certainly that's how mine work...

Likely, those hi-tech WiFi enabled internet connected Blootoof electric ones may work in a more binary manner as they're likely solenoid operated...

And indeed, however the TRV works, there will always be a thermal gradient due to the nature of a big lump of metal heated by water. Both have lots of thermal inertia...

We have TRV's on most of our radiators and in all the rooms not used they are closed off, in rooms used (lounge/bathroom/main bedroom) they are set full open and use the thermostats to set the temperature since the rads are quite well sized. The thermostats are in the hall (for downstairs rads) and landing (for upstairs rads). We spend most of our time in the lounge so I extended the hall thermostat in to the lounge and let that run the boiler with the lounge rad TRV full open. The dining room/kitchen TRV is set low so it does not get too warm (and looks after the bikes). I think this way we are minimising our heating bills whereas if we relied on TRVs to control the heating the boiler might be on most of the time but by relying on the thermostats it comes on only when needed.

First thought is Aston Martin Lagonda but not sure about the apparent pop up lights? :-D

Edit in following research! It would appear that such a thing does exist!!:

Indeed it is, Mick. Have some points :) I hope I left just enough of a hint of the A-M badge visible to help out. :-D

Unfortunately I didn't spot the badge at all, it was the length and the V that gave it away to me, but as I said I didn't know about the pop ups. Were they all like that does anyone know? :-D

I can only attempt the first two Matt... First look like Ford 'Petterpots' from a hot Fester or Escort... Some MG Metros had 'Pepperpots' but with a bigger centre hole containing a cap that stood a little proud with an 'MG'' logo on it so I think, given the centre cap is flush or even sunken a little in your pictures, I'll say those are Ford. The Leyland centre caps had a terrible habit of going AWOL...

Second set appear to be British Leyland metric-sized wheels from a Metro or Montego...

The rest are vaguely recognisable but I can't name them...

Bet Mick can name them all ;)

They all just look like wheels to me, fairly ugly ones at that. Can't tell one from another.

Me too although I suppose I must have had most of them pass through my workshop at some time.

Not looked at Mick's attempt as yet, good idea with a spoiler.

1
Spoiler: show
Agree with Jim, Ford pepperpots, I could not make out the tyre size but will guess they are the bigger 14" Escort (or Capri?) version rather than the smaller 13" Fiesta size.
2
Spoiler: show
Second set, I wasn't sure, wondered Vauxhall (could picture a Nova wearing them) but think MG Metro again as Jim said is the answer.
3
Spoiler: show
Next one I think are called "Cosmic" wheels and think aftermarket. Seen on minis but other stuff too.
4
Spoiler: show
MG maestro
5
Spoiler: show
Ford Escort/Orion phone dial,
Middle two, not sure - VW / Audi??
Then different Ford phone dial alloy
6
Spoiler: show
Not sure, again think these might be old VW or Audi
7
Spoiler: show
Rear wheel drive escort steel wheels I think
8
Spoiler: show
Ford logo but beyond that, no idea. A guess of Orion but odd wheel trim things.
9
Spoiler: show
Top right - fiat not sure what
Top left & middle right - no idea
Middle left, big old ford, Granada? Mk5 Cortina?
Bottom - no idea, but vaguely familiar!
