Trip to Halfords whilst the weather has made another turn for the worst. Oil filter picked up plus a (free) swap of the 3/8" drive 7mm bit I broke on a brake job maybe 12 months ago! It's been on the "when I remember and am next going to Halfords" memory test list since then!

Well, that's just mean and petty My 1/2" set has never had one although both my 3/8" and 1/4" ones do... Plastic ones and nowhere near as good quality as the contents! I feel your pain Matt...

Ah well, after fairly quickly snapping in half, it's not degraded much further. I have seen replacement boxes on eBay - unfortunately Halfords keeps rearranging what you get in their 150 piece set, so matching up a set with the right recesses - problematic.

And also, if I'm buying something, I'd probably put money into a decent steel box instead

So I could do with about 30 minutes dry to get the grey 308 finished off.
So obviously, Sod's Law in full effect and instead I've been given increasingly heavy rain all afternoon! Bugger!

Umbrella and bonnet low (on an offcut of timber rather than its stand) has given relatively dry to swap the oil filter then add most of the new oil (Mannol, "from stock" )

Jumping under the car gave a much less dry environment where rain seemed to pour down from numerous locations continuously. Sump plug tightened (new sump is 12 mm bolt - why!?!) ahead of oil topping up mentioned above.
Undertray back on.

It's ready for back on the ground and final oil level checking, but pretty soaked I've given up and come inside for tea.

Alexa said "rain stopping at 6pm"

Then when asked again about half an hour ago she then said
"stopping at 10 PM"

So I've decided not to risk asking her a third time!

Remarkably I did Matt! I seemed to choose the only spot in North Bucks that remained dry. After that, I really should do the lottery tomorrow...

Despite being dry, it was cold and windy - not like early summer at all...

Last part of the service, top up of the adblue. Doesn't seem long since I did it, but still swallowed 2.5 litres. Wynns additive also in there too.

I'm intrigued by AdBlue consumption Matt. Mine seems to use hardly any and in my ownership I've yet to need to top up the AdBlue tank...

That equates to Adblue consumption of 3,204.7 miles per (adblue) gallon.

I've topped up again today, 2.5 litres, full now and was last top up too.
140098 miles now, approx 134500 miles last time = 5,598 miles
5,598 / (2.5 / 4.54) = 10,165 miles per (adblue) gallon.

Or, in short, not enough to get a meaningful comparison with the book figures!

This week, Diagbox told me I still had 4500Km to go before topping up was needed. I've done around 10,000 miles so far on what was in the tank when i bought the car...

Do you wait for the warning and then top-up or as and when it seems like a good plan?

So far, chucking it in whenever I get chance. I was very keen to get some of the Wynns anti-crystalisation additive in there, hence brimming the tank (plus enough additive to treat the full 17 litre tank capacity) as soon as I got the car.

Servicing this weekend seemed a good opportunity to see where it was up too. Though I said it didn't seem long between fills and I was quite surprised it took 2.5 litres, I'm also surprised it's as much as 5,500 miles covered too!

Should we await the warning and only top-up then? Also, do you use any anti-crystallisation additive?

Yes, Wynn's Crystal Clear and Protect dosed in with the adblue every time is the plan for me.

I intend to take the injector out the exhaust for a quick look at some point (a summer job, definitely!) but nothing to suspect impended doom at present!

I've read this thread about tank / pump "failure" (actually proven to be pressure sensor failure) with keen interest:

I'm also considering buying the various parts used as the fix and keeping them ready in case I suffer the same fate.

Adblue topped up again today - 3.5 litres approximately. Will note down the mileage tomorrow then can again calculate an Adblue/mile consumption rate to compare with the above


Edit: 143842 miles.

Screen wash also topped up, consumption rate of that = not calculating at present!
