Advised by Martin Lewis money saving expert, to re-tax my EV before the April 1st deadline to get another free year even though the car is already taxed so I did just that today, some obstacles were thrown up so now it's wait and see what happens. :-D

Hoping my replacement Mazda will be ready to tax before the end of the month. Old one still taxed and insured until it gets dragged away.

I'll be doing our Pug 308 soon - but not until my other car passes its MOT retest on Monday.

Then I'll transfer the 308 from my wife's name to mine. This will have the effect of cancelling the tax and then, after changing the insurance to reflect the new name on the V5, I'll retax it. As my wife doesn't drive any more I've been meaning to do this for ages and this is the obvious time.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

I've just taxed my Merc this evening as it's been SORN'd over the winter - the car tax portal gave me the option of taxing it for the outgoing month (from the start of March) or from the start of April (tomorrow). Obviously I opted for tomorrow / April, but I've been charged the prevailing rate applicable for March and not the increased rate chargeable from April 1st. It's only saved £15 but I always thought the idea was you'd be charged the applicable rate for the month it started in ? :? :-k
TLDR : I've been charged the old rate for the new year and avoided the standard annual inflation rise.

Well the DVLA left hand doesn't know what the right's doing, got the standard tax renewal letter this morning,
"Your vehicle tax runs out 30 April, you must do.............. Option 1....12 months.........Nil."

I think I'd do an online check on the government webshite to see when it thinks you're taxed until. That'll give the expiry date as far as the government are concerned.
