Sorry Darren didn't realise it was springs and shocks, but you have found the problem. At least you can sort this before NCT.

Hi Kenny, yeah she needs new shocks all round. I got a full set and a wheel bearing for 260 so not too bad. She should be good for another few years once they are done and she should fly through NCT with all the work I will have done. Just waiting on them to arrive. Mister auto were the cheapest I could find so coming from France. Probably be here before next weekend or the following week.cant book NCT until then. TRW in the front and kyb in the back so should be ok.

Have used Mister Auto in the past, no problem with the parts.

Hi Kenny yes I use them regularly. I've had one or two issues over the years but mostly no problems any issues are resolved relatively quickly ifThey are owned by stellantis.

Ok all the bits arrived today so hopefully I can get this sorted this weekend. They are gas struts and the TRW rear shocks are powder coated. I was surprised at this.

The springs on the front had a good bit of surface rust but on inspection there's no putting so a couple of coats of hammerite and I should be good to reinstall. I bought a bearing puller kit and hopefully can install the new beating with it over the weekend.

I've painted springs in the past, a frustrating task where you think
"There, that's all surfaces coated!"
Then spot a patch you've missed, about 400 times!

I'd say one thick coat and that'll do! :)

They've had 2 coats it's all they're getting. Probably missed a few hundred spots but I won't see it from the drivers seat.😃

I got the front shocks in over the past few days and started looking at the rears. They look like a pig to get out has anyone done these on a metallic sprung C5?

Ok I got the driver side one out the top bush is completely shot and the springs are snapped on both sides. I'm going to have to replace everything as they are completely rotten. Just keeps giving. It wouldn't pass a test so it's not like I can just leave them.

Waiting on shekles for the springs, I was able to strip the rear shocks it's not as bad as I thought. The boots are good and so are the top mounts. The bushings looked crap but they cleaned up ok and are actually good so a bit of respite. I'm working on the front today and the DS knuckle is binding a bit for some reason.

I changed the lower bushing on the suspension leg the weekend before last on the front and I don't know whether the alignment of the bushing is off or if it's the suspension leg but when I put the bolt in the lower bushing it causes the steering knuckle and drive shaft to bind. I think the bush section of the leg is bent I'm not sure . Could it be the shock is in wrong somehow? I'm a bit confused at the moment.

I don't think the front shock can be installed incorrectly, it's the anti roll bar upper mounting stud and Bob's your uncle.

FRIP bearing will only go one way, from memory bolt heads are nearest to the driveshaft (hence needing driveshaft out the way to remove them) - is it these bolt heads that are nearest the CV joint which are the bit which is binding?

Best pictures I can find from when I did the FRIP job:

That was my thoughts, I am wondering if the hub carrier is bent slightly from where I replaced the lower bush. It's like as if the geometry is off and the driveshaft is pushed back too far when the lower arm is connected. The knuckle itself moves freely when the drive shaft is out This only started after changing the shocks and lower bushing.

My mate suggested it is the drive shaft is after separating I will have to take it apart and have a look 😕. It's possible with all the pulling and dragging.
