Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
Just a little update. I connected a jumper cable to the negative battery terminal last night and to the car body but it made no difference. I also tried connecting it to the bolt of the engine mount - nothing.
I still get that click and it's coming from the area of the starter motor, my neighbour confirmed that for me. I don't have space to jump start the car but I will try it and maybe it'll jolt the starter enough to revive it.
I also removed the battery tray, just to have a peek under it. The earth strap to the gearbox isn't exactly easy to reach but it is at least secured so I believe it's hammer time. After watching the Laurel and Hardy video, a few smacks and it might start working again - I hope.

Very careful if you hit the starter with a hammer. there are magnets inside and easily broken...

I would still try a 12v to small terminal on starter, If it turns over it works and your problem is elswhere

Ah yes, you're right. I'll try that first if I can, but I'm not convinced that I'll reach/see the terminal from underneath. Thank you.Steve Walsh wrote: 30 Jan 2025, 07:26 I would still try a 12v to small terminal on starter, If it turns over it works and your problem is elswhere

A long piece of wire clipped onto positive terminal, connected to a long screwdriver or similar and touch on small starter terminal from underneath.

Hi Steve. By "small terminal" on the starter do you mean this one that the red arrow points to?Steve Walsh wrote: 30 Jan 2025, 07:26 I would still try a 12v to small terminal on starter, If it turns over it works and your problem is elswhere

That's the one, that energises the solenoid / starter. The one with blue on becomes live when the small one receives 12v. the one on the right is 12v from battery

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
Finally I've had time to get under the C4 today and given the SM a gentle tap of encouragement with the hammer. No change.
Now I'm going to put 12V directly to it but it isn't exactly easy to access and I don't think I'll get the jump leads to fit. How easy is it to remove? It seems like there are only two bolts so if I can access them by feel, it might be easier to remove it to test?

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
Doesnt need to be jump leads the size of car starting leads, onto the small terminal it can be a length of wire like house wiring size or similar, I just have a set of them with tiny crocodile clips for testing various things

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
I appreciate your support Steve, I now just want to be absolutely sure I get the right post becasue the image I shared above doesn't look like the same starter motor as I have.
I think it's the one with a yellow box around it, am I right? I've taken the photo from underneath in case it's not clear.

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
It is the smaller one, It is a 5mm thread with a nut/spanner size 8mm
The large top one is battery power / heavy duty. The lower large one is from solenoid into starter. You need a 12v feed into the small one, if the starter turns the engine that starter is OK.

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
P**s! I just tried it using the exposed terminal/post and got nothing - and now I know why.
In this photo I can see that it appears to have the main cable connected to that post, so tomorrow I'll try it in the proper place (yellow box).
I do hate being thick.

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
OK, thanks I will try but I don't think I'll get any purchase on it with jump leads. What is the cable that is already connected to it? Where does it lead?
