Re: My car has a new MOT!!
I once had an MOT tester fail my Land Rover as the brake pedal wouldn't move when he started the engine and so he said the servo was defective. I opened the bonnet and said "What servo ?" It didn't come with one from the factory

Re: My car has a new MOT!!
As a retired MOT tester I have just bashed my head on the wall. Some people just shouldn't be doing what they are doing.
It may be that they have never come across a non servo system before but they obviously can't read the Testers Manual either.

Re: My car has a new MOT!!
My MoT tester is of the 'old school' - one reason I take my cars to him, the other being that I trust him - but it does make you wonder just how many younger MoT testers now have even seen a car with a carb and manual choke and indeed a servo-less braking system...Dormouse wrote: 08 Jan 2025, 17:04

A goodly number of cars I owned in my early days of driving were servoless. I think the first car I had with a servo was an R5 in 1980.
It's rapidly approaching the time now that few will have seen a pre-C5 hydraulic Citroen and know how to properly test them. Strictly, they should do six brake applications with the engine not running to assess the condition of the main accumulator...

Re: My car has a new MOT!!
Again, read the Testers Manual and all the associated bulletins. It is all in there. Too many people nowadays do not read past the main page or, more likely today, screen!
Many years ago, I was going to fail a Diahatsu diesel 4x4 until I found the bulletin about brake travel on these models. The onus is on the Tester to check this out before issuing a fail.

Re: My car has a new MOT!!
Way back in my 20's there was a garage down a lane about 10 mins drive from me he use to do MOT's, and it mainly consisted of him leaning back in his chair to look out of the door at your car mug of tea in hand, the question, does it start and stop alright lad? to which you always answered yes.
Reg?
He would then write out the MOT for you for a "Cash Price" he was around I would say mid 40's then, he did this for decades until he retired and was never shut down, yet everyone knew he did this.
But as MOT's go my wife 308CC is pulled up for side lights bulbs on both it's tests now as not working, so you have to explain about he DLR lamps doubling up as side lights, so when the DRL's are switched on the side light bulbs don't work, he then goes and reads his manual and then passes it, twice now, I even told him this time don't forget about the DRL being side lights and he still comes back to me, Side light bulbs are out, both of them.......
What can you say (not the same bloke as did the dodgy MOT's I may hasten to add) No, this the tester in the garage I work at.

Re: My car has a new MOT!!
Another year's ordeal is over, had to tighten a ball joint pinch bolt to get it through would you believe? I'm wondering if that was something to do with last week's 4 wheel alignment!!

Excellent
Yep, I'd concur on why you had to tighten

Result
MoT tester commented on what good clean (underneath) condition she's in. I guess he's seen a few rough Picassos recently or maybe they're known to get a bit grotty on the underside. Judging by a local C4 Spacetourer I know, a year or so newer than mine, that could be the case...
