C3 Picasso Blower Problem

Unread post by Kevin JF »

Hi everyone, I've owned my Citroen for 7 years now and looking to spend some money next year to keep it and get in excellent shape. However, my problem began a few years back when the blower stopped completely. I bought a new resistor and still nothing, so replace the blower and it works as follows: Settings "off", 1, 2, 3 and 4 all make the fan go full speed while setting 5 switches it off. I haven't bothered with it for a while as I thought at least it kind of works albeit no air con. Anyway, I decided to try and sort it, so bought another resistor "Valeo" and replaced it, but no change. Any ideas ?? Thanks :)

It sounds like the incorrect resistor was fitted or a cheap one was fitted that's not up to the job. Usually it's full speed or nothing when the blower motor control module goes, but these vary considerably in quality and price.

Thanks for that. It's just driving me nuts as I have now used 3 new resistors (all made by Valeo) and still the same.

Have you had a diagnostic session run on Diagbox Kevin? I ask as it may reveal the root cause of this issue and the diagnostics may well offer an 'Actuator Test' that will test/exercise the blower at each speed.

I'm thinking the blower speed regulator may be receiving misleading signals via the aircon ECU...

And I'd also just add that are you sure you replaced with the correct part number? These are all different (despite looking similar) and must be the correct module. If you have the part number you ordered and provide your VIN I may be at least able check if the part is correct. Valeo are a good OEM brand, so unless they were fakes, we'll need to look at other issues. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

What's the part number of the module you bought (or the link to the exact unit on the website)?

Should be this one:

So the one in the picture I provided with the part number on the box is the correct one for your vehicle, not 6441AA.

Hi! I also have a problem with the blower in C3 from 2016. VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

The fan stopped working. After reading the forum and watching some videos, I concluded that the issue is the fan resistor. I bought a replacement but something is wrong because at the lowest speed, the fan seems to be going at close to what was originally full speed. At full speed the fan speed is way too high. The air temp control seems to be fine.

Is there a way to check the correct replacement? I checked many pages that theoretically should find the right part for my car but they vary not only in price but also in shape/design.

This is the part I removed from the car:

Buy one with the same part numbers as on your old one (BEHR xxx). Buying cheap though may not give a part as good as original but going through a Citroen dealer theirs can be expensive. When our Cactus one failed the old from memory was BEHR but the new was Mahle and had the same part number, still expensive at £110 in 2024 but it works. Cheap ebay ones did not have a make on them.

Thank you for your reply. When I search by that number, I get a couple of hits for used parts in Spain and Poland but nothing for new parts sold by shops. Maybe the part was replaced by another brand. The thing is that for all those parts ranging from £40-£80 I can see this part number: 6441 S7. I made a mistake of buying a cheap one that did not work and I thought that I bought the wrong type. I read somewhere that not all are PWM controlled but I do not know if that is the case. Anyway, it feels strange to choose the most expensive one so I was wondering if there is any way to tell which one will work or if the only way is to literally choose the most expensive in a chosen shop? I am not UK based.

edit: I bought this one from amazon: Febi Bilstein 176588 Indoor Fan Resistors and it works so far. I paid £50 which seems reasonable.
