There are many that do seem to have that problem.

Are you referring to the members of the funeral profession Steve, the undertakers?

It seems to be mainly on roundabouts, especially when exiting, also motorway exits where they dive across three lanes and over the chevrons.

I can't see the lane assist driving function helping with those cases where a driver has made a positive turn of the wheel so I doubt it will stop that behaviour I'm afraid Steve!

Probably true Mick. Still aggravating when they have no lane discipline.
No personal experience with lane warning kit though.

I've had some experience of the lane departure system on a hire car. It was a Hyundai Tuscan (which shares not one ounce of the appeal of it's TVR namesake!)

That without so doubt had the most lifeless, numb over assisted steering I've ever come across. A good few miles into the trip, I discovered a button down by my knee allowing me to put the steering into "sport mode" which increased the feedback somewhat (still awful lifeless)

However! The lane departure thing, should you change lanes without indicating, would quite roughly pull the wheel to try to bring you back in.
It was a very odd feeling indeed. Sort of a bit of a "tramlining" type sensation.

Later, on twisting A roads, I found the system completely and utterly confused and it was pulling me all over the place - e.g. into the curb!?

Switched off after that!

Yeah I had a lend of an ionic 5 the electric Hyundai.
The lane assist I found very disconcerting especially on back roads. It would either try to stick you in the hedge or across the white line especially when there was oncoming traffic.i kept turning it off but it kept turning back on. Call me old fashioned but I like to steer the car not the other way around especially when it's trying to kill you.. Maybe it's the fact the roads have a lot of foliage over them and it breaks the satellite signal. I don't know how the technology works and don't really have enough interest in it to research it. Most of my mates had the same to say about the experience.

I think it's reading the white lines (and hence confused by anything it mistakes for a white line!)

I think the C5 could be had with "lane departure warning" (i.e. beeps rather than it actually pulling the steering wheel) - mine does not have it, but has features in the bumper under tray I assumed were for the (white line) sensors.

Maybe so the beeps make more sense to me than giving control to the car.

There were also some that would vibrate the driver's seat.
Having the car take over the steering sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, especially in wet or icy conditions.

It's all just further motivation for me to keep my 20 and 30 year olds running until I'm no longer able to drive, and if I have anything to do with it that will be when I am in my watery grave!!

Yes I can only imagine how scary it would be in icy weather. I plan to keep my fleet of junkers going for as long as possible. I suppose that makes me a technophobe to some degree.

Oh absolutely, the stuff that is being made compulsory is putting me off modern cars all together (plus the ongoing SUV obsession of the general public is ruling out a sizable proportion as I can't stand them!)

I don't believe this should be part of the MOT test. It improves awareness of tyre pressure. That is not a direct contribution to the safety of the vehicle. A sudden blowout type puncture would be no less dangerous because of a TPMS.
The fact many folks can't be bothered to physically check their pressures does not mean these systems should be mandated.

I have to agree there Robin but fundamentally I prefer a more draconian approach, if a driver cannot drive safely in a pre conceived test then their license and car should be destroyed. Of course to be effective it would need to be a rule that any discretion which currently attracts 3 points will also require the test to be taken!!
