Wonderful news abiut the car passing its test , im steering clear from places that use shaker decks as this machine busted 2 springs last yr on my 308cc , so went to an old fashioned place where its all pitt work . When locals started talking about the usual place i used for a good few yrs and hearing about springs being broken by the shaker deck that was it for me .
Just hope no one else has had this happen to them on here.

Congrats once more its nice to see a great old car saved .

I'd worry about either of my AXs on a shaker... I'd be worried it might fling the poor little car right off the deck and up into the roof of the MoT bay

I'd imagine it might reveal borderline strut tops Mike; in the worst possible way!

Mine still does it in the traditional way Husky, After all, it's easy to shake an AX... Just hold it in your hand and shake it like a rattle

So, what's the comeback if the MoT tester breaks a spring or causes other damage whilst using the shaker? Are they bound to make good?

Ha ha! Fat chance I'd say!

There's normally some sort of disclaimer about cam belt snapping on the diesel rev up test being not the MOT tester's fault (though I think there is also a route for them to refuse to do that test - not in fit condition or similar (will dig it out) - I'd think "not our fault it snapped a spring on our shakey thing" was similarly disclaimer-ed off their conscience!

Very good service from Advanced Paints.

They decided after two attempts to issue a refund......fair play, no arguments at all.

I don't know if you have found an alternative Alasdair but this is the company I have been using for the last 5+ years and I've always had a good match:

I HAD to remove the large /thick steering wheel cover as I do not like the increased thickness that the "stretch-over" type offer....and they look horrid....and I needed to clean the wheel etc.

So off to the Amazon to access a cheap China cover that is leather (lol, very thin) and stitch on...........eerrr, this takes a LOT longer than the small handed speed stitcher on the "how-to stitch" videos on youtube !!!!

Thats very impressive looking , That Dash shine is outstanding.

Answer to Jim regarding my broken spring shaker deck issue,
They wriggled out of it, you can tell if you have a broken spring ,even more so having two, as i recall i cleaned all the brakes a day before the mot so they were all doing what they were made to do even checking springs to nothing broken as far as i saw, one spring that was broken due to this mot was a replaced one which i did not long after i got the car , you knew that was broken as it rattled and clattered over speed humps and rough road surfaces. So now use this place https://maps.app.goo.gl/onkHmA6aypG5MM5Z7

Why would a shaker deck make a spring fail faster than a road ?......if it fails on the shaker would it not have failed soon on the road ?

That new steering wheel cover is starting to look good Alasdair, a vast improvement on the previous one although in one way I liked it as I do like 'chunky' steering wheels and not too keen on thin ones. My AX ones are borderline too thin for me... Polly my Picasso has a 'just right' one :)

Husky, noted on the spring breakages...

it was rockin more than Elvis .....but cars "rock more than AC DC" on the road.....still do not understand the dangers of a shaker bed TBH.

Only theorising here as I've never seen the shaker bed. If they 'vibrate' similar to paint mixers then I wonder if the problem is something to do with them hitting a resonant frequency of the spring's material? Just a thought! :-D

More info on material failures as a result can be found at: https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/ ... xplanation
