Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years

Unread post by Tony__B »

Hi everyone,
and thanks for accepting me as a member of the forum.
I am hoping to find a home for my late father's Citroen Xantia. It's been sitting in my mother's garage since my father's passing five years ago.
It's on a UK 'L' reg plate (1993/4), and was well-looked after by my dad, who was a long-term Citroen owner and an engineer by profession, and it must be of use to someone in need of spares.
Free-of-charge to anyone who can collect from Christchurch, Dorset.

I have a bad habit of collecting/saving them....I am working with a "free" one at the moment (costing quite a bit to reinstate !)

I would like to take you up on the offer as you are reasonably local to me (I am Somerset & cousin in Lymington).... they do need saving if possible...

Could you give me some more details regarding its bodywork and mechanical condition ?....is it "rusty ?....does it roll....does it start etc ?

Hi, thanks for your interest. The car doesn't start but I think this is due only to a flat battery, it would almost certainly run with a better battery and/or a bit of fettling. It doesn't roll easily at present, either, as one of the tyres is flat but again this probably needs pumping up. The bodywork is good, it's been stored in a sound garage since my dad first bought it and was rarely used in the last years of his life. The seats and interior are all good. It will probably need to be collected with a trailer.

Should Sticky decide against this, I'd love to give it a new home.

Nice save! 8-)

Sorry to divert the subject, but I was reminiscing a bit the other day on my mis-spent "school" days down on the coast in the early '90s & mention of Lymington on the FCF prodded a few neurons into wondering. Does your cousin happen to know a fella by the name of Guy Ashton? One of the few adults I actually had some respect for back then & from hazy memory had a garden full of CX's & R25s amongst others. :rofl2: Wonder where my French car obsession came from?

Lymington does the same to me too Dan!

Eldest has just spent a very lovely holiday down there; I was very jealous!

Yes...it HAS been saved.

I will be recovering it in a couple of weeks time.....it will be started, and DRIVEN (to my local MOT station for a test) back to my area directly from its resting place.....just for the fun of it being done.

24hrs insurance & an Oil change before the drive is all it will get :) ...... =I will have my AA card in my pocket however :)
