I had to pull the intake plenum off the replacement engine to put in the injectors loom and discovered this I think it is just the beginning of sludge and from the engine just sitting for what I think might be years but I am not sure any opinions.

Doesn't look "freshly serviced" but I guess most scrapyard engines are similar. I'd probably wipe off what I could get at (even if just placebo effect, it'd definitely make me feel better doing so!) whilst you've got access.

Beyond that I'd not worry too much and perhaps treat it to fairly short interval oil changes once up and running :)

Hi Matt, my thoughts exactly, I'm not pulling the valve cover anyway. I had put the intake plenum back on but now I've just discovered it has the wrong fuel rail so will have to swap it across as well. Which means removing the loom and intake plenum again. 2 steps forward and 10 steps back. Well better now than after I fit the engine.

It's a good job you've crawled all over the other engine I suppose, I'd have thought most wouldn't have spotted that! As you say, better now than when it's in the car! :)

Yes true, I know it inside out at this stage fortunately or not depending on perspective. Slight difference in the angle of the pipes coming off it. The ones on it approach the injector from approximately 60 degrees and the pipes on my engine the pipes approach from 90 degrees perpendicular to the injectors. Just a lucky spot I think. :)

Ok so I changed the fuel rail over. The one on the replacement engine was stinking of thinners. Loom reattached just waiting on gaskets to arrive so I can install the fuel and water pump. Slow and steady.

wife's tiida

Hi all,

Thanks Kenny.

I received the gasket for the fuel pump this evening which I was surprised at given it's Sunday. I'll fit it during the week.im expecting the remaining bits I need tomorrow or Tuesday for the replacement engine. Hope to get it running next weekend possibly early the following week.
My brother was down with me yesterday and he was having fueling issues with his ford galaxy. I done the fuel filter for him and discovered it needed a low pressure fuel pump. Talk about a nightmare to get started. Took ages to get it to prime and ended up starting it with electrical contact cleaner. Absolute pig. He's not well the past 6 months so couldn't say no. I'm worried about him. He's in 50s but looks in his seventies on a walking stick.
I was supposed to do the rearmost front subframe bushes on the wife's old tiida and one of the bolts ripped a lump of steel from the body when I went to remove it. Seized solid. Horrible day with cars. I need to get some suitable sheet steel and fabricate a new section. I want to sell it on. It doesn't support the weight of the car at that position it's more of a locating bolt for the subframe locating bracket.. I want to inspect it further to make sure it is safe to repair.Hopefully, I think the area will be ok once it's replaced any opinions..

Glad you got the Galaxy started again - hopefully it goes ok without the lift pump and swapping that can wait for the spring.

Tilda - the steel looks very thin! I would think you could hammer it flat then weld on a simple plate - guess with a captive nut welded on the top surface?? - be tempted to make the plate nice and big, plenty of weld length to take the strain. Suppose second question is around if it's worth your time? I don't know the going rate for Tildas but if you are planning to get rid anyway - worth weighing up what it's worth fixed Vs off to the scrap man. I'm too sentimental about cars - don't be daft like me!

Big plate, something like this:

A bit of "CAD" (cardboard aided design) would sort that silly round bit's shape

It's worth about a grand here or 150 to the scrapper. I was thinking the same little plate should do the trick. The steel is very light on them, surprisingly light in fact. Bloody awful rubbish in them. The problem is it has fuel lines running beside it plastic ones at that.So I have to figure out how I am going to shield them as well.I was supposed to be driving it for a while until the C5 is back up and running and because of this the Primera is back out of retirement. It's great to have such a reliable yolk to fall back on. I had actually planned to scrap it but I can't now. I get seriously attached to cars I think all on here have this problem.

Love the CAD analogy

I think egg shells are thicker.

Ok so I done the fuel pump last night new adjusa gasket and got the egr valve back on. I had pull the upper intake again because the top bolt for the fuel pump is just a couple of mm too long to go in with it on.
I discovered my coolant temperature sensor connector is damaged so I need to change it. I think I have a spare one if not I will have to pay a trip to the breakers. I plan to do the timing belt today but herself isn't well so that might not happen. My 23 year old daughter was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis the other day so a little bit under the weather at the moment in our house.
The trouble with the car is actually a welcome distraction. I took on a new portfolio in work waste water and underground services a couple of weeks ago before all of this came to light. It's a large site So under a bit of pressure. looking forward to a long break at Christmas. How are you all doing.
