Section in green is the ride up and over Rivington. Hopefully by the time you get a go the down side will have been resurfaced as well, because that was far from smooth, and I was wishing I was riding my MTB

Oh gosh yes Richard we drove down that way; I've seen smoother ploughed fields
Having said that, our roads around here are all like that; bit Mick and I were pleasantly surprised at how good the roads were, in general, up north. Seems the volume of traffic may generally be a lot lower than down this way. Our casual observations seemed to suggest that...
Not sure if this is what is known as a Martin Conquest. Its a trike designed to be used by wheelchair users, parked up at Ad Gefrin Distillery at Wooler today.
I am seriously irritated! I know that The Highway Code (2022) might suggest that I was at fault here, but I would dispute it. I just wish that I had got my dash-cam set up.
I was driving to drop something off at a friends' place about an hour ago (18:00). I had to turn left on London Road. I was indicating left, driving a large Volvo V70 with the Xenon headlights on. There was a delivery cyclist stopped about 5 yards past the road I was turning into (on the pavement, which is a shared pavement/cycleway), facing my way. He was looking at his phone (probably looking at a navigation app). Without looking up he started cycling on his way, straight in front of me. I stopped hard (Volvo brakes are VERY good), while leaning on the horn, but he still hit me, and came off his bicycle. I turned the engine off, and got out, but he got back on his bicycle and shot off down the road. The damage to the Volvo was minimal (scuff marks on the bumper), but I hope that the cyclist has more damage.
I am currently of the opinion that, if a cyclist wants to work for a delivery company, they undertake a cycle course to prove that they are safe to be out on the roads. I took a Cycling Proficiency Test back in the mid 70s, which I passed.

Strangely enough, I was watching a youtube by the BlackBeltBarrister earlier and - if it came to a court case - the cyclist does bare some responsibility for what happened. Obviously it'd come down to a 'he said - she said' type argument, ......and that's where a dashcam can earn its keep.
A dashcam is a very useful tool. Hopefully one you will never need but I was pleased that I had one last December when in the snow my son was driving home, 7 a.m. and at walking pace on the road near his house a Volvo SUV came sliding round the bend and wrote my Civic off.
He got out, was very calm and spoke to the other driver, got her details then carried on home an phoned me about it.
Took the dashcam out saved the videos, sent the relevant one to my insurers, mostly to advise them, as our claim was against the other driver. They offered to mediate so I left it up to them.
She tried to blame my son but got nowhere with that as the video from the dashcam showed clearly what had happened.
A thirty quid dashcam proved its worth that day.
I ruined it trying to put the SD card back in it, bought another, installed it in the new car and had three very close calls the following day. Again the dashcam would have verified who was at fault.
Had my youngest daughter here yesterday and she is teaching her son to drive.
She said she had been dawdling along a street and a young kid on a scooter had fallen off, onto the road in front of her. She braked and swerved and fortunately missed the kid but it was very close, had she been going a bit faster it would have been a very different story and a dashcam would have made all the difference to the probable outcome.
I have a dash cam, I just have to get the power supply wired in (as the power sockets are not well placed to use them instead). As I will be seeing my mechanic on Tuesday I will ask him who he would use.
