2.0 hdi engine timing procedure after rebuild
Hopefully Marc can help me out here.
Is there a specific procedure for setting timing after rebuilding the 2.0 hdi dwb10 engine or is it just the timing belt replacement procedure. I think It might be 360 degrees out on the crank but would like to have a procedure to check.

You have to be careful with timing the pump on these, there is a separate timing hole on the cam, e.g. see

Ok I didn't realise that, thanks Richard. I thought the pump wasn't timed I'll have to check it out.

If the crank was 360 degrees out it would be back in the same place, darbuck wrote: 03 Oct 2024, 13:38 Hopefully Marc can help me out here.

I changed mine on previous car, C5 2.0 HDI, Dont remember any difficulties , using cam and crank pins and all should be good

Re: 2.0 hdi engine timing procedure after rebuild
Hi Steve, thanks for that. it would be out because it has rotated to the 2 and 4 cylinder as opposed to the 1 and 3 which would mean it is firing in 1 when it's in the wrong position. A full cycle of the engine is 2 rotations of the crank so if its 360 degrees out it's in the middle of a cycle as opposed to the start which would mean you don't have full compression when it is required. So exhaust valves are probably partially open during the combustion stroke leading to unburnt fuel. Possibly. I need to check this is not the case but I am going to strip right back to the cams to check chain driven cam timing.
I will have a look at your thread now.

Well you have confused me, If you turn the Crankshaft 360 degrees it is back in the same place,

The crankshaft will be in the same position but the camshaft, which rotates at half engine speed, is 180° out.

Re: 2.0 hdi engine timing procedure after rebuild
Thanks Paul, Yes to that's my understanding of it. Im going to strip everything back and retime it . I have had injectors tested and they are perfect so it's the only logical explanation for the fueling issue. The metering valve on the pump is new as well.no evidence of pump damage.
To clarify every 4 rotations of the cams is 2 rotations of the crank. Can we all agree that is correct for a sanity check.
And there is definitely no timing procedure for the pump.

Sorry I was confused, I thought you where talking about the crank not the cams, Yes cams go at half engine speed

Yes agreed just making sure we're not confusing each other Steve. Do you know if there is any timing on the pump. Consensus seems to be no but I would like to just check.

Re: 2.0 hdi engine timing procedure after rebuild
It is a while since I did one but 99.9% sure the pump is not timed.
Good luck

Just a thought, PSA usually Number the cylinders starting with No 1 at the flywheel end.
