I can't give a representative view on AL4 reliability, given my sample size of one (dead) example isn't fair really!

You can also have AL4 (and 2.0) if you want to give folks more time to gawp at the lovely bodywork!

They have their moments Matt but are not quite the UXB the HP20 isMattBLancs wrote: 17 Sep 2024, 19:29 I can't give a representative view on AL4 reliability, given my sample size of one (dead) example isn't fair really!
There was also the 2.2HDi 406 Coupe with the HP20. In my experience, an HP20 mated to an oil-burner lasts much longer than when paired with a 3.0 V6.
I got an HP20 with a cracked casing from a crashed 406 2.2HDi as my source of spares and as a practice-piece to learn how to repair them before attempting the repair of the dead HP20 in my first V6 Xantia

Re: Classic for under £10K
Interesting Jim, as far as I knew 2.2 HDi in the 406 Coupe was manual only? (ML5 ?) Didn't realise the 2.2 HDi could be had auto in any 406 (inc saloon , estate) to be honest, though I knew C5 had auto option with that engine

Re: Classic for under £10K
That's quite a selection
I'll have the 1963 white Mini please... Almost identical to my very first car...
The Mini pickup is quite tempting. And lastly the 1988 Mini next to it would be my last and least favoured choice. No interest in the 2000 Mini at all... Too new and a fuel-injected A Series engine is just so wrong. If they don't have an SU carb. they're just not proper...
Nothing else floats my boat... These days I only have eyes for small cars

Is that the historic definition of "small car" or the modern version though Jim!?CitroJim wrote: 18 Sep 2024, 17:35 Nothing else floats my boat... These days I only have eyes for small cars![]()
"It looks like a P6, but it's far too small to be one of those!"
Got a bit nearer
"It really looks like a P6, but it can't be"
(Drive past)
"It really was a P6!"

Yes, I know the C3 is actually quite small... If you had my head and neck on your shoulders you'd appreciate my difficulties with anything but small cars

Re: Classic for under £10K
Visually this car is identical to my old SD1 but it is a 2000cc and from experience I know it to be under powered. I actually blew up my 2300 and replaced it with a 2600 because even the 2.3 lacked decent go when loaded. However as a potential toy/show car it is a very tempting replacement for the MX3, sad that it will almost certainly sail past my potential budget limit!!

Re: Classic for under £10K
I foresee this one climbing into the sister thread but it has significance for me being the car I settled for when I had to trade in my new car for two cars to give the ex a car. She got a 15 month old Mini City and I had the 1600 version of this gem. Same colour and wheels so it looks identical to the one which still wallpapers my desktop !!

That would be ideal Jim if you had a chauffeur, no need to take your bike with you just put Strawberry in the boot and Bluebell on the roof rack!!

It would be lovely, had I had the space and money! Two big barriers to having any more cars

Re: Classic for under £10K
Given that my last offering was perhaps a little extreme I wonder if it is possible to ignore an example of a car you love in your favourite colour?
