Classic for under £10K

I almost bought one and later found that they can be problematic. Camshafts made of cheese IIRC.
I was surprised that it was £0 VED.
I do have a 6 and agree there isn't a great deal of room in the back.

In those halcyon days it was amazing just how many vehicles just scraped under the zero VED threshold... No wonder the government saw fit to move the goalposts...

I always thought the Japs had learned their lesson about cheesy camshafts after the smaller Honda motorcycles of the late 70s/early80s used to eat them for breakfast...

Nice colour I'm not such a fan of the saloon and think it looks much better in coupe form. In fact, the Marina Coupe looks have stood the test of time very well in my opinion...

Shame about the shoddy old mechanicals under the pretty frock Despite that, they were a good little earner for BL...

That gear stick was quickly done away with when they decided the gearbox needed a better synchromesh arrangement, the first box was a pain to drive when gear changing became almost impossible without 'crashing' like a learner driver.

Was that because the synchromesh was brass cone rather than baulk ring? ISTR that this was the case with Sprite/Midgets with the 948cc engine. The gearbox was known as the smooth casing type. With the fitment of the 1098cc engine the gearbox was uprated with the baulk ring gear set and the casing strengthened with cast in ribs.

Got it in one Paul. When the baulk ring box came with the new lever layout it was a much better set up, plenty of other stuff that needed sorting out on the car though, poor electric petrol pump, tank breather (sucking water into the tank from the subframe) rainwater onto the distributer cap, the front floor had been fitted wrong so rainwater was driven into the mats under the driver's feet, oil leaks quickly rotted the rubber 'Moulton' drive shaft joints. etc. etc.

I shall watch this sale with interest, the car is identical to the one I bought brand new in 1983 and I paid £7,300.00 for it from Jewells in Watford!!
