I bought a replacement unit through AliExpress, approx £135 including postage and customs fees and arrived well packed in just over a week.
Finally found time to fit it yesterday, between showers. Photos of layout and wiring, plus all cables/wires labelled with tie-on tags.
Layout on my 308SW completely different from YouTube videos of 508, so took extra time to work out how to remove the BGPA from vehicle - easiest is to remove the mounting bracket and then remove screws attaching BGPA to bracket. After removing the top and bottom covers, it is simply a matter of transferring the wires over to the new unit together with any fuses that are missing on the new unit (2 in my case - this is because the same part is used on several Peugeot and Citroen vehicles).
Followed the battery reconnect / BSI procedure (see Marc's reply above) et viola! No service/warning lights and vehicle started fine.
Just had to reset the time/date and passenger window anti-trap, which is normal when battery disconnected.
So hoping problems now fixed but need to monitor over the next few days and weeks, as the original problem was intermittent until it refused to start at all.
Total cost about £135, compared to garage quote of £350 parts plus estimated £620 labour = £970 plus VAT.
Good luck all, and thanks again Marc for your kind help.
Thanks for posting this, it was most helpful.
Would you mind sharing the AliExpress link for the part you bought please?
Also, were there any other non-AliExpress sites you looked at, that were offering the part at sensible prices?
Have you had any related problems or faults since you carried out the replacement please?
Many thanks,
