err... Starter?
You really need to have it diagnosed to find what the problem is, assuming the you have checked the obvious like the battery charge and battery / starter wiring connections.
A bit more of a description would also help - does it attempt to start or make a clicking noise when you try to start it?

Sounds more like an immobiliser issue. Make sure you follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure for correct initialisation.

Re: Citroen nemo not cranking starter
I think these still crank when the key is not detected, The Relay/Boxer certainly does & its a very similar immo system?
Basics first, Is there a power feed to the starter solenoid when you attempt to start the engine? If not what happens when you apply 12v to the starter solenoid?
Have you checked the earth to the engine is good? The main battery connection to the starter good?
I hope you would have done these checks seeing as you have replaced the starter??
Also where did you get the starter from & what brand is it? If it's the RTX brand from Euro Crap Parts then definitely don't rule out the possibility of a faulty new part, its definitely not unusual to have these be faulty straight out the box, They are cheap for a reason.
Did you happen to bench test the old (and new) starters on the bench with a battery?

Thsnk you for your help."new starter",is infact from original vehicle from scrp yard.bench tested and working well. These new technologies; it appears the van starter does not have that cable which prdinarily suplies ignjtiin power to a pin on the solenoid, but just has one thick one that co.es dtraight from the nattery. One obsrevation, when I cpnnect the battery, even when ignition key is off,the battery sparks, and if left on car, drains power.thos could be linked to my problem.

Errr, i think that may be your problem. How else would it know to turn the starter? There should also be another wire for the solenoid,Tintin1062WJ wrote: 28 Aug 2024, 07:12 These new technologies; it appears the van starter does not have that cable which prdinarily suplies ignjtiin power to a pin on the solenoid, but just has one thick one that co.es dtraight from the nattery.
Can’t remember if the Nemo is the same but some older Fiats (this van is just a re badged Fiat) they have a weird connection arrangement of the main cable & solenoid cable. One kind of goes over the top of the other, hard to explain but i will try find a picture.

This is from a Fiat 500, not sure if its the same on the Nemo but it could explain why you think there is no solenoid trigger feed. The big metal eyelet is actually the feed to the solenoid, a plastic insulator is on top of it then the main battery positive is bolted on top of it. Yes its a stupid design.

Re: Citroen nemo not cranking starter
A quick google of a nemo starter suggests it has this stupid setup, if its the same as this then the metal ring highlighted is the solenoid feed connetion,

I think this IS my prolem.thank you very much. Will look at this .maybe tha solenoid connection is rusted a bit.It also means both cables, the battery and the ignition, are housed together in what appears to be the battery cable.
