Clutch temperature high
Hi all,
Have someone faced this issue?
This only happens when you use the 5' for more than 2 min.
Using 4' or 6' for long periods nothing happens.
DS dealers not able to give me a solution.
They suggested to change the clutch but not sure if It will get fixed.
Second opinion said, there is nothing wrong with Clutch...
Third option said, maybe a software update because nothing wrong apparently.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Clutch temperature high
If it's still within warranty - take it back.
Is this a normal gearbox & clutch or piloted manual system? If piloted, that would suggest the clutch biting point is not set correctly. This can be rectified by running the correct actuator engagement procedure which they should know about in Diagbox. They would have to do this if the clutch was being replaced.
If not a piloted manual and you have a clutch pedal, then it would suggest you are riding the clutch.
In either case, unless it is sorted you will be wearing out your clutch pretty soon, as high temperatures are what wears the friction material on the clutch.

Re: Clutch temperature high
Thank you for your quick response.
Ds said this car is out warranty.
This car was imported from UK to Ireland. Where to my surprise was crashed and badly repaired as they said.
This is a manual car.
As I said... in case you are on 4' and jump to 6' for example... the msg never show up.
Specifically happen when stay on 5' for more than 2 min.

Re: Clutch temperature high
Do you have the VIN (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff). I can just get a better idea of the system you have.

Re: Clutch temperature high
Ok, so scrub all that about the piloted stuff - it is not a piloted box, manual only with clutch pedal.
It may be as a result of the damage caused that you mentioned....

Thanks again for your attention.
Replacing the clutch, there is a chance to get it sorted, you suggest?

Re: Clutch temperature high
Well the issue is as I see it, it's a basic clutch system, so nothing fancy to go wrong.
However, if the vehicle has been damaged as you say (I don't of course know from here what happened) then there is a possibility that it has been damaged.
This sort of warning generally may only happen when you are towing when the clutch may overheat as you are manoeuvring where more strain is put on the clutch, but not in normal driving conditions unless say you rest your foot on the clutch or there is a fault with it or it has been replaced and not fitted properly.
It needs investigating to be honest and whether just fitting another clutch will resolve it is unknown as we don't know the cause.

Re: Clutch temperature high
Yes, from previous experience I can confirm a 2019 Citroen Spacer Tourer manual gearbox, driven gently by my dad who's towed before, will display Clutch Temperature High warnings in as little as 4 miles of generally sub 30 mph B and town roads.... When dragging a stricken, non starting C5 X7 Tourer home again!GiveMeABreak wrote: 13 Apr 2023, 18:41...This sort of warning generally may only happen when you are towing when the clutch may overheat as you are manoeuvring where more strain is put on the clutch...
(P.S. thanks Dad, sorry Dad!)

Re: Clutch temperature high
I'm pretty sure there is no temperature sensor, my guess is that the ECU cross checks the engine speed with road speed and known gear ratios, and if there is a discrepancy assumes the clutch is slipping and flags the warning. Telling in this case it only occurs in 5th - suggests to me that the wrong gear ratio is programmed for 5th.

Re: Clutch temperature high
I agree, it is probably a calculated value based upon engine speed, the selected gear and the road speed. Probably warning you that if continuing under these conditions the clutch could overheat.
Are you using 5th gear too early for the speed you are going?

Re: Clutch temperature high
Its the exact same symptoms which you have mentioned above. Only happens when i change in to 5th gear and not so much 6th gear. 1st gear to 4th gear the warning never shows. Its only as i switch to 5th and drive for a few minutes it pops up. Did you manage to sort yours out? Cant seem to find any information on it anywher
