Oil and hydraulic fluid.

Unread post by Alfieb »

Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me the names or numbers of the oils that go into the gearbox and the other tank that controls the gear change on the semi auto gearbox on my 2009 c4 2.0 diesel.and where the fillers are located.
I believe one is accessible by removing
The air filter and there's a filler plug under there. I saw a YouTube video of a chap putting some sort of hydraulic fluid into it, but then another one showed the wheel arch cover being removed and a plastic bottle being filled with some oil or fluid.
Thank you.

It depends on the gearbox you have fitted. You'll need to post your VIN up. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Note: the Actuator oil is a special oil and the hydraulic system MUST be depressurised before it is filled up to the recommended level. To do this you will need a professional level diagnostic tool capable of doing this. Failure to do this can result in over-filling when the system is repressurised and damage.

Please see below Alf. I already have your VIN.
We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.

Thanks for your Forum donation Alfie.

Here are the diagrams showing the relevant parts:
alfie act b.PNG
(2) Is the actuator Electro pump.

alfie act a.PNG
You can see the filling point where the cap is shown at (6).

The special oil is Magneti Marelli / Selenia Oil, part number: 9979A4, £52.25 per litre.

Again, as mentioned before it is essential to depressurise the system first with a diagnostic tool before checking the oil level and topping up to the max mark. Do not attempt this whilst the system is pressurised or you will over-fill it and when it is re-pressurised you will damage the system.
alfie act c.PNG
Fill via the cap (2).
Fill to the maximum mark (as "a").

Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s diagnostic socket.
Switch on the ignition.

Select from the diagnostic tool menus:
  • The vehicle
  • The RPO no. (in your specific case this is 11991)
  • Perform the global test.
Select and validate the menus:
  • Gearbox ECU
  • Specific operations
  • Check of the gearbox piloting actuator oil level
The diagnostic tool displays a new menu.

Select: Depressurisation of the hydraulic circuit.
  • Check the level of oil contained in the piloting actuator hydraulic reservoir.
  • The oil level must be at maximum (as "a").
Carry out:
  • Top up with oil if necessary
  • Pressurise and bleed the hydraulic circuit

Morning Marc
That's great, thank you very much.
I just hope my friend who has the garage
Has the programme to do the necessary
Changes. He pays £90 a month to keep the data updated and he has reset the eloyes before on a C4 so hopefully it will work.
Regards
Alf.
